Autoblog said it is longer than a 911 and no change in overall length. The article also said it was originally thought to be below 3000lbs. It will not be. Nice car still of course.
Edit - Just did a bit more looking and its only .2 longer in overall length than the current 911. Certainly not a big deal!

I wouldnt call that crap.

Agreed we know hood vents are CF and functionally send warm air from radiator over car to assist in down force. Rear intakes are used to cool tranny and diff. All functional. This car is real deal!

I'm betting about 3125. But with lower CG. We know motor weighs more but frame is 100 lbs lighter, lighter hood and roof, lighter seats, lighter suspension. It's likely very close to Zo6 with carbon fiber hood option.

bigdog1250 01-15-2013 05:01 PM

It's going to be around 3200. They said they shed 100 lbs, but they they added it all back with new tech and safety equipment. Should be right around the current C6's weight. Still nothing to shake a finger at. Same or lighter than our car plus an extra 120hp and 180 ft lbs... mmm yea it will be plenty fast. I'm thinking at least a 3.8 to 60.

travisjb 01-15-2013 05:05 PM

seems like the industry fixation on nurburgring times is kinda over, but still would be curious to see how it stacks up there or on some us road courses

Guys this thread needs more fanboyism.

I like smaller powerful shapes. The car is going to be great but too big for me. Price wise I can get a 2009 or 2010 911.

One thing I didnt like about either Vette I had mid and late 90's was the size after sometime of owning. Either way they did make a newer Vette. Im sure it will sell well.

I think it has enough power to be slightly above 3000lbs. But i do agree, length should have been cut.

And of course blue isn't bad, I want to see the dark blue in person though.

Black will definitely save it from some overdone design queues.

I think this new gen. Corvette continues a theme of American cars becoming higher-quality products for international consumption.

It's probably no coincidence that the C7 looks similar to a Ferrari FF, 458 italia, and F12 Berlinetta. I like this. Meanwhile, the Corvette keeps a large V8 + Manual transmission for the drivetrain.

If GM continues upping their game and making high quality cars that can compete with the best from Europe, a lot of success and great reputation can follow (! ! !)

But at end of the day do I want to sell my lighter 2800 lb and higher HP 500 hp Nismo track car for this new vette? I like my old tech stamped steel unibody Z!

I wouldn't touch first two model years of this car though! Way too many changes that haven't stood test of time with general public. I suspect there will be issues. Clearly GM still has some real functional silos too. The engine platform guy didn't know anything about transmission being hooked up to motor he developed? That sounded bad in the interview.

SS_Firehawk 01-15-2013 08:18 PM

The rear bumper is too busy. Looks like the back end of a Camaro and LFA in the worst way. The two tone is terrible, too far up. That is by far my largest complaint. Not that I mind change, but telling me all those vents are active is not a reason to have it in that location. Function still had to follow form's rules and it struck out. The front bumper needs to lose that plastic grill too. There is no character or anything memorable for that matter when I see the front bumper. Probably because they used it all in that asstastic bumper. Profile is nice, interior is nice, engineering seems solid, just wish they focused a little less on the rear and put it in the front.

The C6 was a brand new architecture and I don't recall them having any major issues at all. Same thing with the Z06s, all model years were pretty much issue free from the research I did when thinking about buying them. While it's always safer to wait, I don't think there will be much to worry about.

The real reason to wait would be if you're interested in the next gen Z06

C6 was still based off the C5 chassis. The LS2 / LS3 was based off the LS1 motor. There weren't dramatic changes.

C6 to C7 there are a lot. New transmission (updated version of the old, but still very new)
LT1 motor is an all new design, only a handful of things carried over

The frame went from steel to all aluminum.

The electronics in the car also got a serious upgrade, that is where I think the bugs will be found.

Plenty of issues. all resolved under warranty but they had issues from weak crank bolts to ecu programming issues, brake pad issues, roof panel issues, etc.

I was sharing thoughts on car with some Porsche guys and heard the funniest poke at styling yet. "Looks like Sasquatch stomped on a Camaro!" Lol!

I wouldnt call that crap.

They took the cheap plastic interior and transferred it to the exterior. Maybe if they color-matched those parts it would look great. As it is...pure crap!

If they don't offer a color matched option thats easily something you can have done after the purchase.

Yeah! That looks much better. Don't get me wrong it is a badazz car for sure. In general I really like Corvettes and I was actually going to buy one, but for various reasons I went with the Z.

daisuke149 01-16-2013 10:02 AM

I would not want the color match option myself. black vents with white body= contrast and panda lives on.

m4a1mustang 01-16-2013 01:05 PM

I don't think I'd want the color match either seeing as how:

1) If I get dark blue it doesn't matter

2) If I get red, because racecar

I need to see it in dark green. I think that would look nice.

Black is sinister.

My father has a Lemans Blue (the 2004 commerative edition) z06. I would very much like to see the car in this color, in person.

Black is always sick. Couldn't stand the upkeep on my black Z though.

daisuke149 01-16-2013 01:17 PM

so many angles / bumps Mike could make orange on here for his race car!

I think part of the upkeep problem was the horrible clear on the Z. My guess is the GM stuff is better.

I think I'm going to go blue. It's been a while since I've had a dark blue car. Need one again.

m4a1mustang 01-16-2013 01:19 PM

A friend asked to see the interior with blue leather, so I did this:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-L...ueinterior.jpg

Then did one in a sort of darker persimmon. I think they are going to offer a saddle brown color similar to this

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-j...0/c7saddle.jpg

daisuke149 01-16-2013 01:20 PM

Mm ill take number 2.

And ima also go take a number 2. Brb in 20

Econ 01-16-2013 01:21 PM

That blue leather is wild, though I'm betting it would get tiring. Would look sweet on a gunmetal vette nonetheless.

Agreed. Same with red. I just want black leather.
