Honestly I don't think the Vette looks similar to the GTR that much at all. Yes it's kinda angular but so is a lambo. Yes the A pillar is black, but that's not a huge design cue. Every shape is different, the roof line, the fenders, the hood...

Thechidz 01-14-2013 07:14 PM

no wonder we like it so much

Why would they do that? They already have one with a de-tuned LS9. I could see them starting to use the new LT1, but the LS7 wouldn't really make sense. That motor is going away since the Z06 will be and thats the only car that makes use of their 7.0L

^ it's closer to the 599 IMHO than the GTR ... here's an older comparo shot based on the jalopnik render... I had an old college prof who said that if you dropped aliens on our planet and had them compare ferrari and corvette they wouldn't see a difference... half the room gasped in horror, the rest were dumb-struck lol... this helps his point

Lots of people are saying the new Vette copied bits from the GTR. Aside from a likeness in the engine vent on the front fenders, I see nothing else that looks in any way like a GTR. I just don't see it. And if you were to look at each car sitting next to each other in a parking lot, the GTR would look like a Ford F150.

And just as an fyi, that engine vent has been a part of the design language of the Vette since the early 60s.

but it uses the accenting and sculpture philosophies. especially side and rear. It's definately there. And its clear.

That actual quote about aliens was from a Top Gear episode comparing the two (with a C6). This is a much closer comparison than any other car, but I think the C7 deviates from that path further than the C6 did.

I think because they have the LS7 available now. Probably have more castings than they needed, but there is a new LS7 Camaro.

While I'm sure all angles on the car will look much better in person (not that they're bad in pictures) this one is by far my favorite:

This car in white stirs things in my loins...

bigdog1250 01-14-2013 10:05 PM

The other reason why I'll love the C7... it will have a targa top!!! The best roof option of all

I love it. Seeing the C6 photo next to the C7 makes the C6 look so dated. The C7 looks like a race car.

nuTinmuch 01-15-2013 12:40 AM

Can't afford to jump ship now, but I'll snag a used one in four or five years!

Seriously hoping my dad trades in his C6 -- this thing is just mean.

DLSTR 01-15-2013 07:50 AM

Been looking at it more. Digesting the dimensions and specs. The car is just too big still. No reduction in length and the weight is above 3000lbs. Nice from the side not so much from the back.

I like smaller powerful shapes. The car is going to be great but too big for me. Price wise I can get a 2009 or 2010 911.

One thing I didnt like about either Vette I had mid and late 90's was the size after sometime of owning. Either way they did make a newer Vette. Im sure it will sell well.

Like Mike said it is because they have the engine and it is cheap to do.
Also, the ZL1 uses an LSA motor which is in the CTS-V. I think the reason for it is to create more sales and because it will give them the "fastest" NA American Muscle car probably (against the Mustang & Challenger).

Shamu 01-15-2013 08:36 AM

After seeing this one I'm less offended by tail lamps

That's what I meant, LSA (not LS9). Too many damn LS motors. I still don't think they'll offer the LS7 in the camaro... but we'll see. Why offer 500hp when you can have 580? I see the LT1 going into the camaro instead.

The LS7 is only used in the Z06 and is hand built for it, so i'm guessing they don't have a huge stack of them lying around like they would for other LS motors.

Care to place a bet?

m4a1mustang 01-15-2013 10:04 AM

Well they showed a Camaro with the LS7 in '08 and they have shown VINs already with the LS7 identifier for 2014, so the rumors are strong.
Also, I can see them putting the LT1 in the Camaro a few years after the Vette has it and they redesign the Camaro to the ATS platform.

I will be ordering one in blue.

The Corvette is nearly identical in size to the 911. Length and width are the same. But if anything, it certainly looks lower than any 911 could.

Sibze 01-15-2013 11:36 AM

I think I might like the white the most but then it's not THAT sporty

White is Classy
Black is just ghetto
Yellow would be too much of an attention whore.
Brown would be too much drama

....

Wait are we talking about the corvette still?

BlackZeda 01-15-2013 11:51 AM

The overall shape of the car looks great, put please, add more cheap plastically vents and crap....

I wouldnt call that crap.

bigdog1250 01-15-2013 11:54 AM

Black will look wicked on this car. I really want to see it in Yellow, as corvette yellow is probably the best shade of yellow that cars marques offer. I'm really tempted by the red though... looks soo good!

And of course blue isn't bad, I want to see the dark blue in person though.

When you get to a car this caliber they aren't going to your local Autozone and taping them to the car. Those cheap plastic-looking (i believe is what you are going for) vents are all functional.

b1adesofcha0s 01-15-2013 12:58 PM

Plastically? :roflpuke2:

Econ 01-15-2013 01:10 PM

Can't wait to see what people do to this car in the aftermarket. The corvette community has crafted some wicked machines historically.

red6spd 01-15-2013 01:35 PM

7 speed stick with rev matching. Dam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ground breaking stuff man.
