To answer your question in my area I do see a majority ride around in civics, accords & camrys. Then a select few drive lower-middle end Lexus or Merc.

Per one of the top real estate coaches in the world you do want to reek success if you do plan an being a top agent. Meaning S Class, 7 Series, A8 and etc. I would be happy with an M5 6spd, which I may consider as my next car or an M56.

Depends on where you're from.

Growing up in central Indiana in the '70s / '80s, a successful agent drove a Cadillac. Those with a little less $$, a Buick.

When I went to school in Charleston, SC, the agents all drove MB, BMW, etc. never saw one in a Cadillac.

Difference?

In the midwest (esp. Indiana / Ohio / Michigan, etc.) in the '70s, if you were going to sell an expensive house there was a good chance it was going to be someone either in or associated with the US auto industry. No way you could risk showing them around in a 'foreign' car.

In Charleston, nobody cared.

Now living back in Indiana, I would say that a higher % of real estate agents drive a car from the Big 3 vs. the general population, but you do see the occasional one in a foreign car (or car from a foreign company). The auto industry is pretty much non-existant around here anymore (except for Honda & Toyota), but they probably still feel in necessary just in case.

Before you buy a rental property know what you are getting into. Know what a good price for that area is, if that neighborhood is improving or declining, will the surrounding neighborhoods appreciate or decline your property.

i noticed that it depends on what house and area you are dealing with. people selling mansions and country club homes and upscale and so on drives at least a bimmer, benz, infiniti, lexus, or audi. or cadillac

my real estate agent drove an M5 and a newer toyota highlander. i was in the market for a house in the $250k-$320k range. I ended up buying a house for $280k after almost a year of searching.

*edit...details of my purchase was to show you guys what type of car my agent was driving for the type of houses he was working with. agents that only deal with luxury type houses will probably drive something a lot nicer.

Friend purchased a 2008 550i to go with his new real estate job, he told me that he had to buy a nice car to work for the agency. He loves the car and can afford the payments but he is car broke and now wants to get rid of it and doesnt like his job anymore.

According to me, I can say that dealer service companies, which were originally used to obtain car loans for permanent lenders such as commercial banks, wanted to broaden their activity beyond their local area.

Believe it or not, I don't base house purchase decisions on what my agent drives. I figure that won't fix existing damage, put more square feet inside, or tell me more or less about the neighborhood.

I've always just met the agent at whatever house they were going to show me, but guess if I had to choose I'd go with an ES350.
