The horsepower race has gone nuclear: 2013 GT500

So, the 2013 Mustang refresh details are out. The GT/V6 get a revised GT500-esque front fascia, new rocker panels, new rear bumper, and some nice new LED tail lights. The 5.0 gets a power bump to 420 hp from 412...

But the real story is the GT500, which gets a 5.8L supercharged V8 with a whopping 650hp and 600lb-ft, making it the most powerful production V8 car in the world. The ZL1 Camaro puts out 580hp for reference.

Even more surprising are the aerodynamic tweaks and elimination of the electronic limiter. The 2013 GT500 features a 33% increase in downforce at 160 MPH and a top speed of over 200 MPH!!!

Hopefully soon Ford will release some Nurburgring times as a lot of the development was done there. Rumor on the street is it's quite a bit quicker than the ZL1, which I believe ran a 7:41 lap.

The suspension has been revised (includes some new in-cockpit electronically adjustable Bilstein shocks and struts) and it weighs the same as before (3,850lbs) so it should be quite an improvement over the current 2012, which is very stout in its own right.

thetaste 11-15-2011 07:36 AM

Man that is nice.

"which gets a 5.8L supercharged V8 with a whopping 650hp and 600lb-ft"
Where are you going to drive those 650hp? Moreover the GTR still leaves it in the dust :p

I will drive those 650hp in your driveway. :yum:

Stock-for-stock I bet this would take the GT-R in any race that is not from a dig. I don't think this car will hook up very well. :bowrofl:

Red__Zed 11-15-2011 07:52 AM

Gtr wins in the all-important 0-6mph category, a stat previously dominated by the Prius. :p

Car looks sick. 650/600 is insane from a production car

Track Package

For 2013 Ford is offering a Track Package for the Mustang GT. Available only on manual models with the 3.73 rear axle, the Track Package includes everything in the Brembo brake package plus an engine cooler, upgraded radiator, performance friction brake pads and the same Torsen differential used on the Boss 302.

Damn:(

m4a1mustang 11-15-2011 08:00 AM

Yeah the torsen option would have been nice.

Oh well, it's a cheap upgrade if you really want it.

It's a lot of work though

m4a1mustang 11-15-2011 08:06 AM

Actually it's not. :icon17:

birdmanx1 11-15-2011 08:08 AM

LOL, you might run out of braking room, like this guy did...

birdmanx1 11-15-2011 08:08 AM

I do agree about the car not hooking as well as the GTR would but a beast it is indeed

Whole pumpkin swap is easy. I can't imagine swapping your pumpkin to a Torsen is easy in the driveway

birdmanx1 11-15-2011 08:11 AM

LOL true dat true dat

Spikuh 11-15-2011 08:27 AM

I'm proud of how far Ford has come in recent years. :D

Sibze 11-15-2011 09:15 AM

That thing looks sick

Jordo! 11-15-2011 09:18 AM

Jesus Christ.

Well, that's a compelling argument for buying a Mustang.

What are they asking for that...?

Lemers 11-15-2011 09:23 AM

In the GTR comaparison the the GT500 will win the most bang for the buck even though ford hasn't put a price out yet. It will still be sub $60k

The Dimer 11-15-2011 09:28 AM

I don't care for the new look of the taillights, but that aside it is going to be a beast and a half....maybe even two beasts. :icon17:

TX_370 11-15-2011 09:30 AM

Love it!

I don't think anyone will see your tail lights long enough to care when you go screaming by at 200 mph

No official pricing yet but it should come in under $60k.

m4a1mustang 11-15-2011 10:06 AM

I actually really like the new tail lights. :icon17: If I keep my 5.0 a while I will probably buy them.

KaienZ34 11-15-2011 10:07 AM

Damn that's super hot, the only thing i didn't like on the old one was the bottom of the rear bumper and now it's fixed.

KaienZ34 11-15-2011 10:08 AM

So what do you think a used one will go for in a year or so if the new price tag is 60-ish??

Depending on options you might be able to scoop one up for somewhere in the $40s used.
