exactly...

they should have made these cars when gas was cheaper though..@ $4 and climbing this might be the last hoorah for High American HP cars..especially with mandates from the gov't coming for more economy sooner than later.

It's the last hoorah for all high HP cars. We'll all be forced into Prius' sooner or later.

The interesting thing, though, is even with 650 hp and 200+ mph top speed it still avoids the gas guzzler tax. 15mpg city and 23mpg highway... not bad!

I believe one can compare the ZR-1 and the GT500. Sure, the ZL-1 is much closer and the CTS-V can enter the convo, but when we're talking about high hp beasts, rwd, American made...

They can be compared.

Now, there are worlds of difference, but savour the fact that the choice exists while it does, because it probably won't be around forever

Yeah CAFE standards are raining down the hurt in a couple years.

But ZR1, ZL1, GT500, GTR, 911, the fact that we have the choice of these cars is a testament to the current golden age of performance vehicles. Lets enjoy it while it lasts.

and let me say that the new GT500 is an extremely impressive vehicle.

Am I mistaken? Can one not say, "Are there any American cars with an FR layout, a snarling V8 with over 600 hp, capable of 200+ mph," and come up with the ZR-1, ZL-1, and GT500?

I don't care how much power it has... I won't buy one until it has that. I will be keeping my eyes open for the 50th anniversary planned for 2014. THAT is going to be awesome.

You can't say that, because the ZL1 runs out of steam at 184 mph.
