If the solid rear axle is so crippling to Mustangs, go whip a 2011 GT around a racing circuit stock for stock and get back to me.

I'm really really digging this new gt500. I predict a 7:32 ring time or there abouts which is damn impressive.

Skeeterbop 11-15-2011 08:10 PM

I may be misunderstanding you, but I didn't say there is anything wrong with a Solid axle

m4a1mustang 11-15-2011 08:26 PM

None of my comments were directed at you, Skeeter. Just generalizing.

I think people are just gonna bang that drum until ford put IRS (+$5000) on the mustang.

I think the live axle just gets a bad reputation because for a while they were really, really bad. But now with the new ones people are having a hard time coming to grips with the fact they are actually very good when done right -- on the street or the track.

The negative behaviors created by a live axle are often similar to, but less severe than, the behaviors generated by most sway bars. Almost any irs car setup to drive will feel the same as a car with a live axle.

Obvious fanboy is obvious

My understanding is that the SRA is just more difficult to learn that an IRS. Which would make it heavily driver dependant....unlike cheap interiors*cough*corvettes*

Of course we all know FWD>the rest of the world combined :stirthepot:

No, I was actually agreeing with you and Steve. The SRA argument is old and tired.

This is a cool read if you are interested: 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Specs and First Ride- 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Release ? RoadandTrack.com

Shaun Bailey from Road & Track got to hang out with the SVT engineering team for a day during development at the Nurburgring back in June, and had to keep his mouth shut 'til November 14th. :icon17:

Meh, still a Mustang.
Though thanks for killing the ZL1 Ford before it even hit the streets.

See now that's the problem (and why ford almost stopped making the mustang several times). No matter what car ford puts on the road people will say its still a mustang.

Ford could built a 2 seat, midengined, twin turboed, AWD, 800 HP, "true sports car"; but as soon as the galloping pony goes on the car someones gonna say "Meh, it's still a mustang".

All I know is that Meh mustang is kicking the crap out of my Z for equal or less money.

Amar I see you lurking. I meant to text you earlier to tell you to hold off on the 2012. :icon17:

Viper + '13 GT500 = WINNING!

People say "meh, it's just a Mustang" much like many people say, "meh, it's just a NISSAN." At the end of the day it really doesn't matter what they think.

Here is the thing, 'Meh it is just a Mustang' is because the Shelby GT500 really is just a Mustang with a blower and suspension tweaks. I agree they do a great job taking the platform and improving upon it, but my statement is at the end of the day the GT500 is nothing more than a Mustang.

Now if ford made your 2 seat, AWD, 800HP car you listed, then that would be something completely different on a new platform.
