every state has different laws. many states treat it as a felony, allowing your property to be seized and destroyed...

People miss the point that innocent people get killed from this Activity, And thats primarily the reason that in some states it's classified as a felony as is drunk driving. Its unfair to the responsible drivers but life isn't fair.

I am pretty sure the guy driving this car did something extremely stupid and hurt someone, or just pissed off someone with authority... The police/judges/prosecutors have the discretion to use the full extend of a penalty on you or not.

Plus, in the eyes of some, what your friend got would be a slap on the wrist. Maybe he pleaded guilty and the judge/prosecutor decided that he can keep his car after he serves out his penalty.

I thought I remember hearing that our neighbors to the north very frequently seize cars for street racing.

It's one step away from a DWI here, but i've never seen/heard of them destroying the car for it. Then again i'm sure that didn't happen here.

destruction is usually used for cars that are really heavily modded, to the point they can't be auctioned. sometimes they think it will teach people a lesson though.

Yep, I believe there was a story recently with 4-5 cars crushed for street racing.

This was years ago and if it were in a different state it would have been crused for sure. It was a 98 cobra with fully built motor and vortex SC with 100 shot.

Some states have laws that allow the state to confiscate anything used or obtained while committing a crime. For example guns in illegal hunting, houses bought by drug money, cars in street racing.

Limits and how it's applied vary from state to state and most auction off what was confiscated and the proceeds go to a state fund.

Something is not adding up about the backstory of the crushing of that car.

I do not support street racing at all but considering this is supposedly from California and there is no info at all it screams publicity stunt. I can't recall the CHP ever crushing a car otherwise.

not sure if serious....

Paul Walker weeps: California turns to crushing street racers

It's usually on heavily modded cars or cars with stolen parts though...the IS-F could have been stolen I guess.

1) I'm always serious

2) Those are really old and at the height of street racing from the early 90's. They stopped doing that a long time ago. Most of those cars were impounded because they had JDM engines that never passed emissions and when they were found they were crushed.

Find me the info that backs up this video and I will believe it.
