Check your local Craigslist there should be plenty of vehicles around or under 5k, maybe a GTI, or subaru outback since you live in new england and need that AWD

IMO, if cost is a factor at all, then check out insurance rates first. The WRX and Civic Si rates are usually pretty high.

I really doubt you'll find a WRX or Si for under 5k unless it's falling apart....
How about a Miata? They are fun and I hear the doors are made of adamantium.

for commuting, I'd get an EK Civic. Easily see 40mpg on the highway if you keep your foot out of it. Should be able to find a clean example for $2-4k.

^^ I don't think a scion would be in your price range, and im suprised no one caught that, but im expecting winters to be as severe in nj as up here in ct, so why not look into a 4x4 or awd if you are gonna be using during the winter? and also are you trying to buy from a used car lot or private seller?

Yes and I need AWD T^T seems I can't find any AWD except Evo or WRX. any more suggestion?? Thanks

Ok did some research real quick:
Couldn't find one for 6-7 although if you wanna spend around 8k i found this one 2005 Scion tC, $7,799 - Cars.com and if you arent particular on manual there are some outbacks on CL AWD found this one for 5200--->2004 Subaru Outback AWD |

both are automatic, my suggestion is go to a used lot dealer browse their inventory, and keep checking CL you should find something, now that you are flexible on the price and arent looking for something only 5000 then you should be able to find something, some other suggestions maybe a, corolla, camry, they are always reliable and good on gas.
