I find your comment about me not driving sports cars funny.

Please do share your nj roads list. I will make sure to hit them up, maybe it will change my mind.
mustang is 3600lb and it has a tremendous power advantage, almost 100hp and more than 100lb feet of torque. the GTR, lotus exige s240, cayman s and 911 turbo i drove have amazing, disgustingly good handling. mustang handles well in its class, but it's no where near disgustingly good.

if you want wide open roads with no cops go to Bridgeton and ask bigaudiofanat. if you like to carve mountain roads go to Hopacong.

This is disgustingly good to me. Power was irrelevant on this years layout, and it tells you a lot about the car's nature. I

Those cars aren't in the same class as the mustang.

Curious how you would describe the 370z's handling?

Anyway, mustang gents, can you comment on the intangibles with the mustang: how is Ford's service, does it really feel too big, is the back seat even functional, because when I sit in the camaro there is no leg room behind me Also hows the additional costs (oil changes, general maintance, performance parts).

I have the 5.0 in consideration as an addition to the stable *

(*note: add to collection, not to replace the Z)

I don't think it's too big. But it does take a while to get used to coming from the Z.

Back seats are usable for kids. An adult can fit back there if necessary, but not recommended.

Service is pretty good. Most of the Mustang forums have Ford reps attached to them so if you ever do need something serviced you can PM your Ford rep and he or she will set everything up for you and make sure it's tracked by customer care, not just the dealership.

Maintenance cost... roughly the same as the Z. Depending on what oil you use an oil change could be more expensive with the 5.0 since it takes 8 quarts.

Performance parts are on par with the Z in terms of how much the part itself costs. But the HP/$ ratio is much better with the 5.0. An intake + tune can get you ~35whp, for example and conventional bolt-ons are enough to get you above 430whp.

I never actually felt the Mustang was too big, really (with the exception of the seats).

The Camaro? That's a different story.

But the Mustang felt pretty okay. It's not a small car, but it isn't a boat, either. It is what it is.

Regardless... I don't understand why these arguments come up, especially when they tend to dive into topics that are clearly subjective. It seems like it would be just as easy to say "I didn't like the car, so I'm not buying it" -- but instead we always go into this big discussions about things that probably don't actually matter to anyone in reality.

Well it's usually just one guy that comes in the thread and starts sh*t. It's really civil and constructive otherwise.

Crazy, right? Maybe you can troll the corvette thread about how much better they could be with an overhead cam.

See, I'd say the 370's handling is fantastic. I'm just a more positive guy all around

Taking a look at those results should tell you a lot.

Thanks!

Back seat wouldn't be used really often, but Im glad at least kids can fit there. For some reason I always had issues with cars that have pointless back seats (porsche) that can fit a laptop bag at most.

Yeah i heard about the HP/$ is better. That is interesting that mods cost similar since I would imagine it's a popular fomestic car so there should be more suppliers with parts (competition drives costs down)

Yeah it really depends. Some parts are cheaper some aren't.

I did pay only $600 for my Konis vs. around $850-900 for the Z. So that's nice.

I actually have had to ride in the backseat for a couple long drives. Like Steve said, not recommended, but possible.

The parts are all still in very high demand, which keeps some of the prices up. With manufacturing slowed down, etc....there's more demand than there are parts

I don't currently own a Mustang but right now I spend more time in my buddy's 5.0 than I do in the Z(down for the winter). He gave me a chance to take it for a spin and will say this:

While it isn't the biggest car in the world, it does feel big coming from a Z. I'm sure the hood scoop made it worse, but I could never really tell where the front end was and I was afraid of misjudging turns in a tight parking lot. My winter beater is a Del Sol, which makes even the Z feel big. lol

As for the back seats, I would say that it's a 3 person car. It's plenty easy to fit two people on the passenger side while leaving both passengers relatively comfortable since the person riding shotgun doesn't need to be seated in any particular position. I would not want to try and sit behind the driver, he is 6'-3" though.

When it comes to customer service, he had to take his car into the shop for some warranty work on his transmission and basically got the run around on that. He had a bad grind in 5th, they ordered the syncro, then decided not to put it in and just replaced his redline fluid with dual clutch fluid (which didn't fix the issue). But I think service is really going to come down to where you take it. It's never universal across shops, dealer or not.

And as far as additional costs, maintenance/oil changes seem pretty standard and there seems to be a pretty large aftermarket with most prices lower than comparable parts for the Z.

Oh yeah, and it's wicked fast.
