In other news, my tuner sent me some new tunes to try.
I was having some issues with high rpm pinging at times (above 6k rpm @ WOT) and thought that it might be partially attributed to the exhaust leak I have right now. Tuner doesn't think that's the case since it's post 02 sensor, but it might be. Either way I was running a 93 Performance tune and he sent me one tuned for 91. We'll see how that works. Also got an 89 Street tune for added flexibility.

Heard it.
I heard it once before when I first started with the tune this spring and we fixed it. So I'm thinking it's the exhaust or just bad gas (hence the decrease in the Octane rating on the new tunes).

i ve been thinking of going to a 91 tune just to be safe, there car will add timing anyway if you actually get 93oct or dump some torco in there...

That's my thought process.
Of course I am also mulling just ditching the intake and tune and not worrying about it. I won't do that, though. I'll just stick with dropping the octane specification on my tunes. I'm probably going to switch from Performance to Street, and my new Street tune is for 89 octane. Regarding octane, in stock form the ECU will run on anything 87 or higher. Ford says it makes 405 hp on 87 and the full 412 on 93. So obviously a little conservative with the timing advance, but still, there is not a large power difference.

yeah i hear on "thinking" about ditching the tune. All that #8 talk even though allot of it is bs kinda got to me. I have a suspension issue with my car right now and the tech advised that i remove my off road h and tune before i even think about bringing it in due to the new TSB. kinda of a pain

Yeah, that is a PITA.
I just want to get the tune sorted out and fix my exhaust leak and all should be well.

Nice more distracters from the road.
" Why didn't you see that car in front of you hitting it's brakes?" "I was seeing if I beat my best 0-60 time on the gauge"

Steve...
So any sort of tune is banned by Ford for warranty work? Is it as simple as reverting the tune? Or can they still tell there was a tune. Therefore ANY mod is not allowed? How about my shifter????

As long as that is the case, you should be able to reflash to stock with no definitive trace of there ever having been a tune. If you are paranoid about it, you could replace your battery so you have a viable explanation for the flash. As far as the shifter goes, that would only affect warranty repair if it was the root cause of damage to the car.

I think they only check it on major things (blown engine)
Steve, I am positive there is a flash counter, and disconnecting the battery will not look like a reflash. We use similar controls for the controls we sell, except ours are for use on jet engines and such. |
