When I test drove one, the three things that got me:

-- The interior. It's built just fine, but the design of it doesn't really hold me. It has that retro look going, and I really wasn't a fan of the speedo/tach. I also wasn't a fan of how it "felt" -- basically, the Z sits you in a cockpit, where the Mustang just tries to sit you in a comfortable car.

-- It just wasn't made for someone of my size. I'm 5'6 and 120, and I was basically swimming in the seats. Likewise, everything just felt big and, well, American. I like smaller cars, I guess. It's why I'm attracted to the STi/Evo and not muscle cars or cars like the M5.

-- The exterior. I just don't love it. It isn't ugly, but it isn't really any different to me than the other Mustangs of this generation. I don't care about exclusivity, but I've gotta love a car when I walk up to it, and I wasn't feeling that at the dealer.

Likewise, as cool as the power was, I didn't feel like it was worth trading a car over. I felt like I was going to an equal vehicle, not a better one -- regardless of what I knew the numbers actually were.

Word. Some cars just aren't right for people. You never know 'til you give them a try.

the mustang driving position/etc is definitely very different than the Z. Some days I like the room, other days I miss the tight feel of cars like the S (I always felt like the Z was pretty roomy too)

Saying the interior is terrible is really looking with blinders on though. It's definitely uniquely styled, but the quality is pretty solid.

Well said.

I can go weeks without seeing another 370Z but the mustang (even the latest body style) sometimes I can't go a block without seeing one. So if I were to go down that road it would need to be a special edition like the boss or Shelby.

Opposite for me. More zs here than 2011+ stangs of any sort

That's why were all free to choose! Happy for u. I'm 5'6 as well and fit just fine in stang. Not used to it yet opposed to the z.

nope, just cruising around. Two black nismo's, red, black, and silver roadsters, and a silver coupe.

The Dimer 10-02-2011 08:49 PM

I never see any at all here in the SW Chicago suburbs. I see a 350 or two maybe once a week, and the only 370 I see is the one in my driveway.

Lemers 10-02-2011 08:52 PM

I see a few 370Zs on base but off base very rarely. Mustang 2010 -2011, all over the place.

Alchemy 10-02-2011 09:00 PM

I see tons of Stangs. Its not that I see tons of 5.0s though but I def see enough. I rarely see 370s. Plenty of 350s. Stangs appeal to rednecks/nascar fans and the meat heads in NJ and trust me we have no short supply of either. To be fair I think the majority of Zs I see are driven by rich dudes wives. I guess when you look at it that way Id rather be a hick than a rich dudes wife:p

No need to go derogatory bro. Not cool. We're all car guys here and it's about respect. How would Z owners feel if folks started chirping about how Z's/imports only appear to some Asian/rice stereo type? It offends/offended me a whole lot when folks called me a ricer, etc when I obviously was not. There may be Stang drivers/owners that will take offense to what you say. A car is a car is a car. If you don't like it fine. I'm Asian and have been an import lover all my life, but I have learned to respect all cars, domestic or not. The Z is a GREAT car. I know because I owned it. But there are plenty of OTHER great cars out there.
