Yes, IRS for next model.

It's also going to be a minimum of 250 lbs lighter. The 5.0 will be direct injected with an estimated 450 hp.

3.7L V6 might be replaced with a turbo 4 banger.

/\ any word on if the overall dimensions of the stang are going to shrink a bit?

Dont get me wrong if I was rich I would probably still have a Z along with something crazy just because I love the Z and its a great car. People dont cross shop cars like that, when is the last time you talked to someone who was stuck between a Merc C63 AMG and a Taurus SHO?

DD, the GTR is NOT more fun than the Z, it's just a big auto car that feels like it's being caged and pent up and you can't even enjoy 1/10th of it's potential on the street (legally of course). the Z is great fun to zip around town in, it's way down on power compared to the GTR, but you can use what power it has on the roads vs. not being able to even really begin to tap into your car's potential.

Kind of off topic (like it matters? :p) but is it worth it to raise the rev limit on the Z and to how much? Will probably need an UpRev tune after I get HFCs early next year so I'm trying to figure out everything I want to get done with the UpRev.

Our Z is uprev'ed to 7900 rpm. It made power all the way up to that point on the dyno as well. I feel it's safe but at the same time, i don't go driving around in 2nd or 3rd gear at 7500rpm everywhere either. A few trips to the raised redline here and there aren't going to hurt.

No way in hell I'd run the vq37 up to 8000. Nissan set the soft limit at 7 grand for a reason... setting a hard limit at 7800 is probably ok...but no one way I'd stress an internally stock motor that far....especially for the barely noticeable effect on power delivery.
V6's in general aren't really made to rev that high, and the vhr has worse balance than most. If you wanna see 8 grand buy an s2000.

It's supposed to be a more global platform going forward, so speculation is it will be a little smaller. Probably closer to the size of the 99-04 model, which was fairly compact.

They probably need to cut the dimensions down if they are going to save 250 lbs too.

Well it's the truth. You really are stretching it, and you said yourself you are concerned with reliability, so we are trying to help you out.

that would be a good size, not too big, not too small, but with the 5.0 it will be crazy fast (er).

Red__Zed 09-20-2011 07:30 PM

agreed. the new edges were a pretty solid size.

:iagree:

Though now that I've gotten used to it I'm totally fine with the current size of the car. It would just be nice if it was a bit lighter.

lighter is always nicer. If they shrink it, it will be the only car you see running autocross :roflpuke2:

Guess I need to jump on the 5.0 bandwagon to get promoted to a real car enthusiast :roflpuke2:

I kinda wanna test drive one now. Not to buy, but just to see how it is.

Yeah but I'm trying to beat my 1/4 mile time too :icon17:

Want to have it reliable enough for a DD, but also trying to squeeze as much performance out of it as I can without spending tons of money. Makes it more enjoyable for the fun times, which is when I really enjoy the car for what it is.

For the fun factor, you should be more interested in the tune bumping up your low and mid range torque. That will be the biggest difference between stock tune and uprev.

Yeah I just look at the rev limiter bump to be a bonus. Seeing what my other options are with the UpRev and what I can do with it besides the obvious.
