With a tune, you have silly gains of like +45 whp at 7k where the stock manifold has dropped off and the Boss IM just keeps pulling.

dunno if i'd wanna stay that high with the stock cast rods

Don't a lot of people raise the rev limit to 7500? How safe is that?

the forged powdered-metal connecting rods are totally fine in NA applications, i dont think anyone is spinning more than 7500

Kind of off topic (like it matters? :p) but is it worth it to raise the rev limit on the Z and to how much? Will probably need an UpRev tune after I get HFCs early next year so I'm trying to figure out everything I want to get done with the UpRev.

Not sure how safe 7,500 is. I wouldn't feel comfortable spending a lot of time up there. My limiter was bumped up to 7,300.

Mine is currently set to 7800 with my UpRev. I know some people set it to 8000.

Yeah. I'm not looking to rag the car out....I do notice it pulls timing at around 6800 rpms, short of red line....

Just curious what is "safe"...seen guys at 7750 on regular 5.0s that seem to work....then again, I revved a stroked f20 to 11k hundreds of times with no issues, other guys blow em up with one rev to 9500....

I guess the 7300 limit you run sounds like a good compromise. Plus if your engine blows up, I can lower mind. ;)

thats just the stock manifold falling flat on its arse, lol

Yeah, it did. With the Steeda intake (and any other brand intake) that flows significantly more air than stock you really gain a lot of power up top. The car pulls hard to redline.

Yeah, I have seen people running 7500+ but they are more serious racers and don't really care if they blow it up.

I think 7300 is a good compromise.

^^^ This (and the stock rev limiter kicks in around 6850).

Intake + tune and she pulls like a motherf*cker to [insert new redline here].

Do you think its made a significant or worthwhile difference? I only want to do it if it makes a difference and is relatively safe. If I do have it raised, I won't even go that high very often. Just when I'm at the drag strip or doing some spirited driving.

Red__Zed 09-20-2011 04:18 PM

Nah, datalog shows pulled timing. The bama guys confirmed that's how the stock limiter works.

The z was similar, pulled earlier, but less aggressively. My z pulled timing about 7100 rpms. A lot of the peak tune gains on both cars are from going to a hard limiter

Edit: replying to gz3

Tuning your car is never relatively safe.
