alright guys here"s the update, went to the dealership, got all the things i wanted in the sti. but....one thing i can not get over is the huge differece in the interiors.
I believe the z spoiled me, the STI interior is not bad, but not great either. The braking in the z is much better, but the power and everything was quite the same, but with the STI having more potential. im on the fence right now, i love the z and am finfing it hard to get rid of just because it is a head turner, but the STI would be awesome in the winter months and much more fun.

Congrats! Gonna get ours in the next few days too. Did you go with the Sport-tech package? We're going to get the 4 door STi with STP and homelink.

Hey djpathfinder, i saw you on the other sti forums, forgot which one, but i didn't get it yet, but was gonna do it with the homelink, short-throw, shift-knob, and cf rear piece. Seeing that you live in Canada, you def! need to get one, there are some nice modded 2011's i see rolling on that side.

Yes, I have to park the 370Z, but my wife needs a car for all 4 seasons. Should be fun to drive year-round. From the little I've read, sounds like there's a lot of modding potential for the STi, but you must be careful cuz the car can be quite finnicky. I guess every make and model has their individual behaviours and problems. That's the thing, there are so many modded WRX or STi's running around...can't keep up with the Jones'. LOL!

OK, we went to the dealership today and put an order in for a 2011 WRB STi sedan with Sport-Tech. Tough decision between white and blue. The blue is so vibrant and such a classic Subaru color. We opted for the rear view mirror with Homelink, short throw shifter and bushings as well.

It was just pure coincidence that you started this thread when you did cuz we had been finalizing our decision on a replacement car for my wife. So it was perfect timing to read what others had to say and was able to participate in the discussions. I wouldn't say peer pressure...it's more like jumping on the bandwagon.
![]() So, are you keeping your Z? When do you take delivery of your new STi? What color? Sedan or hatch?

Sorry, I don't mean made to order as a 2011. Yes, mine will be a 2011. They have to locate one for me. Some 2011's still at port (in Vancouver), others still to arrive. Selection is getting slim though. The WRX and STi for 2012 are being made and will be the current body style where us the other Imprezas will sport the new redesign. I was told they were expecting those in late Oct or early Nov (?).

I think living where I lived then, I'd have skipped the Z and gone straight for the subie if I could do it again. The Z is a great car, but the WRX/STI is on the same plane of performance, without most of the compromises present in the Z. There's no replicating the feeling of RWD, but the WRX is usable in all weather, which more than makes up for it for those of us that live in places with seasons. Quick thoughts-- The WRX is much torquier, and feels quicker around town. There's just more power down low the powerband-- even without a tune. It doesn't have the high-end scream of the Zed, but for a road car, I prefer the torque. The trans is the WRX is an old school 5 speed, which is kinda lame. The STI trans is smoother than the Z's though. Both are pretty strong transmissions. Dynamic-- the Subie's understeer A TON-- even more than the Z does. Potentially annoying, fixable by a rear sway. If it didn't bother you in the Z, it won't bother you much here though. The Subie's feel lighter, mostly due to the steering ratio. I feel like I'm in better control of the car on tight courses, and it definitely autocrosses faster on most courses, even with skinnier tires. Brakes-- wrx brakes are lame now. STI brakes are solid. I'd put them about equal to the akebonos. Anything specific you want to know, just ask. |

The STi looks sharp in white. It was such a toss up between rally blue and white. If they can't get a blue one for us, we'd gladly take a white one. The other color I like is dark grey metallic. That is very similar to my 40th anniv Z. The drawback is it's almost as hard to keep clean as black. The STi will be a winter driven car, so we decided against that one.
