The body work is pretty amazing, but why on God's green earth would you use one of the worse chassis, drivetrain and cars ever produced to serve as a base?

The body work is pretty amazing, but why on God's green earth would you use one of the worse chassis, drivetrain and cars ever produced to serve as a base? Such a shame, there are soooo many other cheap cars that would be a much better alternative.
