Hyundai looks to be following their exact business model. Look how far they came in just 10 years? Give them another 10 and unless the global economy changes radically, you will be singing another tune.
I couldn't have said it any better than these two posts.

Withhold judgement on the car until it's released & reviewed before instantly writing it off because it's a Hyundai.

it isnt the hyuandai badge detering me, however the fact that this would be their first "supercar", and im sure it would be a learning process for them.

I'd be nervous spending 100k on hyundais's first attempt. I personally dont think the hyundai brand is terrible, hell i only drive a nissan....who am i to judge.

On the other side of the coin, if 20 years ago someone asked you if you'd pay $90,000 for a nissan you would of said, hell no! Now you're all on the GTR band wagan. You never know what they will be as a company in 10-20 years.

10 or 20 years from now a lot could change, but right now i also will not pay that much for a hundayi not because its a hundayi but simply because it is their first attempt plus i could get a car that is proven and has a history a legacy instead of a car that has none at all

they have the partners, the money, technology to create a really amazing supercar.

They could even make it a diesel supercar if they wanted to based on their diesel tech they have worldwide.

Problem is hyundai ussually tones down their cars a bit for more mass market appeal.

If they really decide to go bonkers on this it could be something quite extreme.

Considering the price tag, if it's real, they have decided to step into a different arena. Any one of those executives can and most assuredly has driven any number of high-end cars. They would not price their offering among them if they did not feel they could compete. Their business model seems to be very successful, not based on stupid moves. If they bring a $100K car to market, you can bet it will perform.

Funny, I wonder how people feel about "Japanese sport cars" back then when American and European cars were THE cars to own.

I applaud Hyundai for this endeavor. The direction they're taking to their cars really outshines Honda and Toyota. If they have a car that competes with a Porsche or GTR, that's just putting themselves 2 steps above Toyota and Honda. I'm getting tired of the "just enough" feeling while Mazda and Hyundai has been bumping up their $50K< segments.

If Hyundai can put out a $100k car that can compete with the GT-R and 911, it might help motivate Nissan/Porsche to further develop their own cars and make them even better. I'd say that's a win for everyone

if it has the sophistication of the GTR and 911 for $90-100k and has a 100k mile/10 year warranty, it should do very well. my dad just got a new sonata and it's a really nice car! they really have come a long way!

I am actually a big fan of most of Hyundai's new cars. They are really good, and I'm excited to see where they go in a few years.

Seriously, the new 2012 Hyundai Genesis should influence Nissan to start putting a V8 powerplant or turbo option to the Z and G =P

from the WSJ today:

"But today Hyundai U.S. Chief John Krafcik shared a curious bit of info that seems almost implausible. The brand also seems to appeal to the very wealthy.

American Express Centurion Card holders – those people who are rich enough that they are offered a “Black Card” with a nearly unlimited line of credit and a host of other niceties – buy Hyundais at a disproportionately high rate compared with other cars. Indeed, 6% of Black Card holders say they have a Hyundai in the garage. That’s tied with Bentley and Audi. Others on the list: BMW is tops with 22%; then Mercedes with 21%; Porsche with 15%; Lexus, 11%; Ferrari, 8%; and Acura, 7%. That puts a lot of interesting brands below it."
