10000 RPM Vette
Next Corvette Will Be Powered by Small, High-Revving Turbo V-8 - Yahoo! Autos
Check it out... if it is nice enough I may have to jump on one of these lol. |
revving to 10 grand would be amazing.
|
Very interesting. If they do this right, the C7 may come into consideration as my next car.
|
sweet, might bring me back to the corvette fold. but I'll always have my 370 as my track car!

I'm guessing this one will be priced significantly higher than the current models?
|
Sounds promising. :yum:

I'll believe it when I see it.
|
They want to turn the Vette into a high revving, mid-engine exotic!? I would personally like to see such a car from GM, but I don't think it should be called a Corvette. I'm sure the purist out there would agree with me.

They mention 400 hp though.
I bet the engine gets nowhere near 10 grand though. 9k at best, most likely 8500. Still screaming, not ten grand though. |

If you guys actually read the full article instead of skimming through it, it does mention that they will also have a model with the conventional OHV V8.

will prob cost 80k though.
at this price id rather the GTR/new viper coming out |
This is the best idea GM has had in about 40 years

The turbo version is rated around 400 HP which is lower than the base corvette's HP now. No way they will sell the 400HP corvette for 80k when they can just buy a older Z06 for the less by then and have more power. |
This is interesting but seems strange that GM will do this with the corvette. I am sure the old school v8 guys don't like this at all.
|
If you can't beat them join them? I just hope that GM doesn't price the vette up there with the exotics that they are trying to copy with this one.
|
I doubt they will price it up there with the exotics not a base vette anyway.
|
One screamer for me please.. 6speed. I've always liked the look the the vette but I'm just not a fan of the big v8's.. This I could go for!
|
Think GM will offer this new engine as a crate engine.

Seeing that it's a smaller v8 w/ turbo it might not be an LS engine.
|
A V8 built for boost this sounds great I wonder how much power you will be able to put down with a tune and some simple bolt on mods on that stock turbo =) wait im one of those guys that did not bother to read completely did they happen to mention what
brand/size turbo they are going with? |
I see this the other way. The 'Vette attracts all those people who love the big rumbling, low-end-torque V8. If those guys wanted 10k RPM upper range rockets, they'd have bought something else.
Chevy should just focus on the 'Vette interior quality. That's what keeps me from buying one. They've already proven they make killer powerplants. |

I'm really hoping this refresh works out well. I'd love to be in a vette in a year or two. |
It's all about the MPG and looking like they are offering alternatives. I'll believe this when I see it in production though. At one time I remember reading articles that ford was going to offer different versions of the GT one a V8 and on a Eco boost V6 turbo along with the base V6 that didn't happen either.
Bottom line it about the profit margin. |

h.p. figures seem modest at best. The arial atom V8 is a 3.0L without turbos making 500hp. Chevy usually makes big numbers with their engines.

as far as if they offer a big v8 and a smaller turbo v8.. that just seems silly to me.. not finacially wise, nor from development stand point.. unless last years Big V8 is being offered as the "base" model... lol |
Wonder what they're going to do with the C7 ZR1
