-155mph speed limiter is kinda lame
-nearly 30# 2-piece driveshaft? Fail
-They STILL have transmission issues
-285's out back when they lay down 485 to the tires!?
-Solid rear-axle and no Fays setup?

However, in its defense...

-485whp!!!
-Fully forged and nearly bulletproof motor!
-Very nice interior/NAV setup!
-RECARO's!!!
Well said.

I guess I consider the Viper, GT500, and Vette ZR1 to be American Muscle cars and not Supercars. Although the ZR1 is very very close.

The GT500 is a muscle car, and the Z06/Corvette/GS/ are sports cars. The ZR1 and Viper are produced in sufficiently low quantity and have the numbers performance-wise that they are rare, and very capable. To me, this means they are supercars.

0-60 in the mid 3-second range.

Total production of 1-2000 a year on average.

I think the viper lacks the refinement of a supercar. I put it in the highend corvette relm. I still wouldn't put it in the same category as the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG or Audi R8 or Most Ferraris or Lamborghinis

this brings into question then, the term exotic...

are all exotics super cars? or are all super cars exotics?

it's all subjective in nature... like whats a sports car...

However, the proper application of the term is subjective and disputed, especially among enthusiasts. So-called vehicles are typically out of the ordinary and are marketed by automakers to be perceived by the public as unusual. The supercar can take many forms including limited production specials from an "elite" automaker, standard looking cars made by mainstream companies that hide massive power and performance, as well as models that appeal to "hardcore enthusiasts" from "manufacturers on the fringe of the car industry."

someone at a porsche dealership once told me it had to be at or above 200$ to qualify for a super car...

I'm sure at one time $100k car was a good indicator, but know there are too many so even though there is no set dollar amount I'd say $100k cars are too "common" and to be a supercar the price needs to be pretty "exclusive".

I wouldn't say that...but I would say that most American cars are too common to qualify.

As for american made the one the pops into mind is the ford GT. I would call it a super car.

I would agree... its much more rare then say a viper...

Its like the gallardo.. or the 360 spyder...I don't consider either of them to be "super cars" meh...

I don't consider anything to be a supercar unless it's a generally ridiculous car in both performance and price. The Veyron is a supercar.

I don't look at cars like the Lamborghini Gallardo, Merc SLS, etc. as supercars. Just high-end sports cars.

I think a lot of it depends on where you live, as well. In the Tysons Corner / McLean / Leesburg / Great Falls / Fairfax area of Northern VA when you see a Gallardo or 430 (and even the 458 now) the immediate reaction is, "cool, another one."

I've seen 1 SLS and that was 500 miles away. Any lambo is very rare for me and the garden spots that the Army sends me to. The Ford GT was produced for a whopping 2 yrs so it is rare.

Yeah I don't see many Ford GTs around here. I've seen a handful driving around in the last few years. My client of my girlfriend's owns one and she's been trying to get him to bring it out to our local sports car meets.
