Saw a black one in person yesterday, and I must say, it's definitely got potential. I'd have to see them modified, but no, I would not trade the Z in for it.

Yeah the S2000 was surprisingly expensive compared to how bare bones it was.

Bare bones yes, but if Honda actually charged enough to make a profit on the S2000s (they lost money on everyone they made, just like the NSX), they would have been closer to $50k (they were hand built after all). They were nearly perfect, the balance was unbelievable, truly the best car I've ever owned, better then my brand new Z (which I love, not knocking it one bit). The S did stock what everyone here who mods their Zs is trying to do (except for the horsepower part obviously).

I agree with most of what you said, except this part. The S was a different kind of car. Closer to a suped-up Miata than a Z. The Z is very bulky. It's practically a muscle car in comparison. I love the S, but 33k brand new was too much cost for what the car was, in my opinion.

When comparing the S to the Z, I tell my friends, "My S was like a pro figure skater, my Z is more like a pro hockey player!!!"

The S was pure precision, the Z is pure beef! I was Tim Allen caveman grunting all the way home from the dealership.

I drove it today. It wasn't bad, but it didn't really grab me. For the money, I'd rather have a Miata.

What would you say the "weak link" was ? I sat inside of a Toyota 86 a few months ago and was really impressed with the seat feel, steering wheel, driving position, interior layout/function. Is it the engine & exhaust sound that lets the car down ? ?

Lack of oomph, didn't have the turn-in I expected. Interior was well laid out but cheap. They're ok.

Eh, I wouldn't call the 370Z a Hockey player. It's more of a speed skater. Precise, fast around corners, but not necessarily brutish and powerful. A Hockey player is more of a Corvette Z06, imo.

The Z weighs a few hundred pounds too much to be a speed skater - the Z06 is actually lighter than a 370Z. Definitely the hockey player of the group.
