I love the BRZ / FR-S because they've received phenomenal reviews? I wouldn't say I "love" them but considering what is known there is absolutely no reason to assume they're somehow "over-priced" / "under-powered". If that fact hurts your feelings for some reason you have issues. The point I've made is that a car clearly does NOT have to produce superior #'s to be a superior driver's car. Case in point: Mazda MX-5 Miata is by far a superior driver's car compared to the 370z despite producing slower test track #'s. This may be hard to swallow for some but reality is reality. The BRZ / FR-S / MX-5 all costing under 30K and all slower than the Mustang, 370Z, Gen Coupe, etc are superior in terms of being fun / rewarding to drive. If you race your daily driver's for a living you may want to go with the car which is merely quicker. Otherwise, I don't see the point in going with a car that is less fun to drive but happens to run a quicker 0-60 time. good luck finding one that is manual and available.
My buddy bought a BRZ but it took 2 weeks to find in the good ole' state of Minnesota.

The cars have potential, but don't work for me with the stock engine. The car is so light it doesn't need 300hp, but something more like 250hp/240tq... Then it would be in my garage.

Saw my first FR-S the other day in red, was going in the oposite direction so i only got a shot of the front and side as i went by. From a looks stand point in my opinion the car looked very cheap just like the current scions do. At a starting price of 26k i would never buy this.

I think they look great from the front and side. It's the back view that really kills it for me. It looks like it's running on spare tires - super skinny and not even close to flush.
I don't care about how well it performs if it looks dumb doing it. Although I guess it's an easy fix. |

Finally found a BR-Z in the Subaru showroom, but saw it at 10 pm, after it closed. Gonna finally be able to inspect it closely some thursday
![]() Fun fact: The Subaru and Hyundai dealerships in my area have window-side key lock boxes and many cars have keyless entry where the keys just need to be a few feet next to the door. Resulted in many open doors late at night. |

I had a revelation when I sat down to ponder what cars would be REAL WORLD faster than the BRZ/FR-S. Granted, my living situation (Colorado Springs, 6500' above sea level at my house), pushes my impromptu logic in a specific direction, but I imagine this would apply to nearly anyone who doesn't live six feet from either ocean. So, without further ado, here are the categories of cars faster than the Sciubaru in the real world:
Category A: any car/truck with a turbo. Category B: any car/truck with more than 2 liters of displacement. And that's it, really. Now I don't know about you guys, but I would die inside just a little bit every time I got waxed from a stoplight by a soccer mom late for practice, rolling 6 deep in her minivan. I think anyone who's even got a small shred of competitiveness or Type-A in them would feel the same. The thought of having to repeat the mantra "Yeah, but my car handles better in the twisties" over and over again during my daily commute- which, oh by the way, has NO twisties- would drive me batty. So where would this car be truly good? Race tracks with no straights and canyon runs below 2500'? Without any sort of boost from a turbo or a blower, I can't see this car being a world beater. I simply can't. S.
