for those who have owned porsche turbo
I am considering adding a car to the garage. I noticed a big price drop for a used turbo versus a new one. What should I look out for if I go used? How much mileage per year is acceptable? Is it an expensive car to upkeep?

The upkeep has been minimal but having said that, there is still relatively low mileage on the vehicle. The oil changes and regular maintenance are not a big deal but we don't go to the dealership, I have a buddy who is a certified Porsche mechanic so he doesn't void the warranty when he does the regular maintenance and oil changes. I would say IMHO the Porsche 911 Turbo is the best supercar you can choose if you intend to drive it a lot and get a lot of use out of the vehicle. |
Check main seal for leaking, do a test drive and make sure that the tranny shifts good. No popping out of gear and whatnot. those 2 are the biggest things to look for in the 2000-2006 911 turbos.

She told me when she bought the car the dealership told her she had to have all of her servicing done at the dealership while the car was under warranty or she could run into problems... I'm not sure if this is legitimate or not, my girl doesn't know much about cars, just which ones she likes. :icon17: |
I am willing to pay for oil changes if that is the case. I am looking for a 2007. Consumer reports says these were the most trouble-free of the last 6 years. thanks for all advice. Hopefully I will find one that has been kept stock and all records have been kept.

They are extremely reliable cars, only needing the most basic of maintenance. on the 2000-2006 996 turbos, the hydraulic rams for the rear spoiler have been known to leak but it is a fairly easy fix. The 997 generation is proving to be the most reliable yet, I have yet to find any other car that is such a complete package of performance, refinement, and reliability.

Screw the Porsche - get this bad boy instead ;P
