Default No Calls/Emails from Salesman?

So what do i do here guys?

As some might know i am thinking about trading the 370Z in for a Porsche Cayman. But the salesman/dealership just doesnt seem like they are interested in selling me a vehicle. I dont get any emails from him, no phone calls, etc. I email him and he reads the email, and still no response from him.

He did call last friday night and we talked for a few minutes. He said he would get back to me, probably on Saturday. No word Saturday, nothing Monday, nothing Tuesday, and its noon Wednesday and havent had any word from him.

So, what do i do?

Mike

Most important thing is to not panic. Also, don't move off of your purchase number. They may be trying to make you sweat it out to try to stick you with a sucker deal.

Or maybe they really don't want your money. You may want to start shopping other dealerships. Remember, it's your money, it's your custom. Go to where you're treated well and get the right deal. Never be afraid to walk away from any deal.

Its weird isn't it? Right before we bought the Z Roadster my wife and I test drove other cars like Miata etc. Must have been to 6 or 8 dealers. We were in heavy negotiations with at least 3 dealers. Hard to find a 6 speed roadster so we went to at least 3 Nissan dealers.

Not ONE of the dealers ever followed up after we left. I assured all of them that we were ready to buy, and in fact we bought the car late at night at the last dealer we visited that day.

Some recession when sales holes won't even call you back.

When I was shopping, most dealers followed up with me. A Mazda guy I went to actually let me drive a Miata, RX-8, and MS3, and a month later followed up. Only had one or two that didn't follow up with me.

Had one Nissan guy get super mad at me for looking for another deal. The deal I found, on the exact same car, was at least 500 bucks better.

Word to that. We just got a new car for the female. Every dealership I went to called me back like I was a big shot or something.

Fielding the calls is annoying, but on the other hand it's nice knowing people want my business.

that is weird, I bought my car over a month ago, and I'm still getting calls from dealers I inquired with, to see if I am still interested.

Don't waste your time with that dealership...I had a similiar experience with a BMW dealer I had purchased 2 cars in prior years....Another one down the street was much more willing to earn the business...

Just find another dealer.

I talked a little to my local dealer, they didn't have anything in stock, and didn't see anything close by that I wanted.

Went an hour away, they let me test drive a roadster, acted like they were serious, said they would visit my trade-in at the Acura dealer (20 mins from them, 50 mins from me), and when I followed up they never visited. And they never contacted me again.

Meanwhile the local dealer got in a trade with everything I wanted and promptly called me and emailed me.

If you aren't comfortable with the dealership or the salesperson, you shouldn't be spending $40k or more with them. Find someone you are comfortable with.

I still get e-mails from dealerships for cars I was looking at months ago. I would try to go to a different dealership. They are supposed to be working hard to try to earn your business not the other way around. Also, instead of trading in, try something like CarMax. I've heard they usually give you more for your car than dealer trade ins. Good luck

I would never stick with one dealer. I would try and put dealers against each other for price. And I agree with everyone. If they are not working hard for your business, they don't need it.

Good luck!

I never waste my time waiting for them to call me back. I got in touch with like 7 dealers when looking for my Z and made 1 personal visit to the place I got my 350Z from. 3 of the 7 dealers I contacted got back to me. I specified the car I wanted, and none except Koeppel was willing to bring the car over from another dealer.

I ended up getting the car from another dealer because I had a great relationship with the manager, so I got a better trade-in, among other things related to peace of mind. After I got my car, 2 dealers called me asking me if I was still searching...and I told them I was...like 3 weeks ago and that I got a car from Legend.

Moral of the story, don't only talk to one dealer. I understand you live in Indiana, but surely you have another dealer nearby?

Nearby? sort of. but Evansville is only an hour and 15 minutes away, easily the closest dealer. and i get to Evansville about once every 6-8 weeks so it would be very convenient to deal with them. Louisville and Indy are over two hours away. Cincy is almost 4 hours away, and St. Louis is 5 hours away.

I've emailed the salesman again this morning, asking for the status. if he doesnt contact me by noon tomorrow i am going to call down there and ask to speak to another salesman.

Mike
