I'm sure the Nissan engineers could easily build a high revving v8 but it would take some time. And as sick as it would be, I doubt there's a way to put the GT-R motor in the Z. It would eliminate manual transmission as an option and would be nearly impossible to drive in stock trim with rwd. They'd need to add brembo/stop-tech brakes also to handle that power, which would also increase the price. A stage 1 GTM SC will put down nearly 400 whp for around $7500 installed, which would be around $40,000 total assuming a base sport model. You'll retain a tremendous amount of drivability and the linear powerband. I dont think there's much more nissan can do to make more than 350-360 bhp out of the box while maintaing the price range.

Two words: Direct Injection. There were some rumors going around that the Z was gonna go the DI route and said that bhp was around the 360 range. This is how the Gen coupe got its power bump, so it's not crazy to expect the same for the Z. I don't think Nissan would ever offer a SC with the Z. If they do choose to go the FI route it will most definitely by TT. I don't think they would ever go TT on the 370Z though, it would make it too easy to make it more powerful than the GT-R. Maybe when they introduce the next gen GT-R and it blows the current one away, they get let the Z have TT without having to worry about it potentially hurting GT-R sales.

I'm all for bigger and better, but I love the Z in stock trim as is. I will eventually own a GT-R and that'll have a completely different purpose than my Z.

GT-R is definitely my next car too. Waiting for the R36 to come out, by the time it does I may be able to afford it. :excited:

Nissan got their design from previous Z's, 40 years of them being built, so I think that another car company coming in and stealing that design/tradition from a car is a slap in the face.....so as i said before I hope they dont do that.....plus I dont want people coming up to me asking me "Hey is that a Hyundai?"......

blah, C5 did pretty well given it copied the front end from the FD RX-7

If anything they need that bump of hp/tq to compete with our sister G37.
Always imitated, never duplicated!

CrownR426 03-08-2011 01:02 AM

And regarding our 370z's.
I believe that the next generation will be getting direct injection.
No turbo's since nissan stays with the heritage of n/a.
But that juke motor is going to be the start of something amazing for nissan!
Hopefully I won't mod my car too much cause Nissan is going to make a turbo rwd beast!

GT-R isn't a true sports car, either, I guess.

If we extrapolate to the VQ motor, it could make 381 crank with DI.

For the coming FT-86, which will have a DI boxer, it means even the lackluster 2.0 that normally makes 170 bhp could make as much as 195 for starters.

I forgot the exact formula, but I believe every 1/2 point in compression is 15 horsepower in an NA motor, roughly.
I'm more into American V8's, and that is what that formula is for, but should be close to accurate at these hp levels (mid 300's).

like he said

Like Econ said, Im gonna need forced induction. It makes me upset when they make me upgrade. But good for hyundai. Ill start saving my pennies now so that Ill have a tt kit for when they make it official.

Then where are the German supra's!?

I'm glad the german's pushed the envelope with the M's and AMG's and RS versions getting more and more powerful. It likely inspired Nissan to get the GTR over here (FINALLY!!!)

I highly doubt that.

AMG, ///M, and P-car customers are not Nissan customers. Walk into a BMW or Porsche dealership and walk into a Nissan dealership. The difference is substantial.

I believe the GT-R was made to compete with the 911 Turbo. Nissan specifically challenged Porsche's lap time on the Nurburgring. They most likely brought it to the US to increase their sales, its a pretty large market here.

Cunnos 03-08-2011 08:19 AM

It sure is a good time to be in the market for a sports car, i think thats something we can all agree on. Whether its a 30, 40, 50k car, there are many choices and each car company is trying to outdo the other. I really cant see myself purchasing a Hyundai sports car, but who knows what they will do with their new coupe......im sure a lot of Porsche guys said the same thing about owning a Nissan GT-R, so we'll see!

I know. They usually can't drive and return the porsche's in 2 weeks because they're "too bumpy". Just because they have the money to afford more doesn't mean a thing. The one badge they all wear proudly is paying too much for their cars. Many purchase cars for status and to compensate for other areas of their lives that are lacking (often between their legs). The GT-R has a long heritage of racing and will stack up just fine against AMG, M, or porsche.

Re: dealerships, they are extremely different. They cater to money, not really enthusiasts. Even porsche. My father went looking for a GT3 and was asking the salesman technical questions regarding the suspension and he had NO CLUE wtf he was talking about. He was more concerned with what kind of coffee my dad wanted while he waited in the lobby. BMW is also notorious for this, at least where I'm from. Jersey is loaded with people and money. Every J-Wow wanna-be drives a white 3 series with a cigarette sticking out and thump music bellowing from the harmon kardon or whatever the heck system bmw uses in their "upgraded sound" package these days and every Situation-in-training is rocking an AMG or M3, automatic of cours. Part of being a true enthusiast is knowing how and where to spend your money. If money is not a factor, by all means bring on the stampede of prancing horses in bright fire engine red.

Just from looking at the article, it looks like a grand prix/G8 to me. I'm just saying.
