Pretty heartening news for car enthusiasts everywhere.

wow that sux big sweaty hair salty balls...i loved the evo....geez whats next the Z?!
Eusegi>mitsubishi?!?! wtf |
I am hurting a bit, I wanted one of those.....
|
as an avid DSM lover, i'd love to see a rebirth of the turbo Eclipse.
|
Fck

I would rather see something along the lines of the 3000 gt again, their new found dedication to electric cars could even be an option.
In theory an electric car could out perform an internal combustion powered one, but obviously they've all been designed as gutless economy cars to date though and I don't see that changing |
Well that stinks.
|
Electric powered Evo, sign me up!
|
I miss my Evo 8 a lot. I'm always looking to pick up one for cheap but haven't found the right one yet.. I need to pick up a Evo 9 RS. sounds like it will pull a pretty penny in the future.
|
Huh. So Mitsu is going Toyota and Toyota is going Nissan.
Well there ya go -- Toyota needs to offer a turbo model of the FT-86 next year. Whole new potential consumer base just opened up. |

Here is another link
Mitsubishi to ditch the Evo for EVs - Confidential Word on some of the suby boards is that the STI may not make it past 2014-2015. With all manufactures going to hybrid or electronic tech it makes you wonder how much longer sports cars in general will be around. |
Am I the only one hopeful of an Eclipse revival? I remember lusting after the GSX as a kid, I'd love to see another awd turbo sport coupe from Mitsu.
i mean, c'mon the car was hot, and it was WAAAY ahead of its time. http://www.dragtimes.com/images/1093...hi-Eclipse.jpg |
Wow can't believe the evo will be no more...lol i don't get all this environmentally friendly crap

So sad to see it go, but chances are Mitsubishi won't survive without a sporty car in the line up. Boring utilitarian types tend to go into obscurity rather quickly. Oldsmobile, Isuzu, Plymouth etc... decided to stay with lack luster, average looking cars. Every major manufacturer knows this, from Toyota develpoing the FT-86 to Honda with its meager SI & CR-Z. It's kind of stupid having a rally inspired car in production and no longer having rally team. Who knows, maybe this will open up a niche market for shops turning ordinary Lancers in Evo's. I don't think they'll kill off the Lancer anytime soon.
|
This is the last year for the Eclipse as well.

Eclipses are for ricers! :icon17:
BTW, Mitsu is refuting the stories as just rumors so need to get worked up gents. |

I had a 2g GSX putting down ~330awhp with little money into it.. I also had a 3g GS(T)... it was going to be a GSX but I got poor.. lol but even still it was putting down 380whp... they aren't bad... then I upgraded to a TT 300zx :) |
Exciting cars bring people into showrooms whether they can afford them or not. If my local Nissan dealership had a GT-R you can bet your a$$ I'd be there on a regular basis. They're like hen's teeth in these parts. Without the Evo, Mitsu's in trouble, at least in this country.
|
someone has to win the battle, like blu-ray defeating hd dvd.
i am glad that subaru won it. at least, it would make MT WRX, unlike mitsubishi for the evo. |

Mitsubishi would be retarded to drop the Evolution. I don't think it will happen any time soon. |

whereas mitsubishi will stop making the evo. |

Both of you are failing to see my point.
Also, as per Mitsu, the Evo getting the axe is nothing but a rumor. |

My neighbor had a GS-T in college and it was a beast. Upgraded snails, and engine mods = made me piss my pants during a drive-along :icon18: |

____________________ Mitsu’s global product director Gayu Eusegi, and he heard some rather jarring news: The Lancer Evolution X, Eusegi told me, will be the last Evo. “There is still a demand [for the car],” he said, “but we must stop.” Eyebrow up. “Our influence now is EV technology,” Eusegi said, adding that the decision was a “policy change”. |

Go spend some time on EvoM (which I do plenty of)... you'll find more info on there. The word, as of right now, is the Evo might be taking a different direction (be it electric, hybrid, etc.) depending on market/demand. It won't be getting the axe. |

but you can't trust what a dealer tells you LOLOLOL I saw this too Evo is dead *clicky clicky* Evo XI hybrid baby! |

Even though sports car enthusiasts are always a small % of a customer base, these companies aren't doing themselves any favors by kicking them to the curb. (see Honda, Mazda, and a long time ago,...Toyota)
|
I've never been convinced Mitsubishi (auto) is much more than a tax shelter for the parent company.
I understand the need for a new direction, but if you actually care about selling cars, why kill the only halo cars you have? |
