Ft-86 Prototype II
Not sure if this is a repost, but the new ft-86 prototype II came out.
Toyota FT-86 Concept II Debuts At Geneva http://sciclonic.com/wp-content/them...640&h=250&zc=1 http://sciclonic.com/wp-content/uplo...64-300x179.jpg http://sciclonic.com/wp-content/gall...ii/aft-865.jpg http://sciclonic.com/wp-content/gall...i/a1ft-861.jpg It is funny how members on the ft-86 forum say it doesn't slightly resemble a 370. I think it looks good though. |
This car is going to be real cool, especially what they offer the turbo.
|
is this the supposed supra revival?

Still no specs....(minus the wheelbase)

Well its not going to be as fast as the Z with the turbo, but it will have turbo tuning potential. |
Who said anything about turbo yet? Maybe the higher trims will have it (most likely the subbie). I love the design and approach, but I may still want the torque of the 370z. Don't get me wrong, I love small, high revving N/A engines (have an RSX-S), but boast and torque are fun too.

if they give this sucker RWD and the old 2ZZ toyota engine from the celica GTS, it'd be pretty fun, or even a turbo version like the old MR2! Their possibilities are endless really. Watch them screw it up anyway!
|
The side has a hint of Maserati GranTurismo; the front: the 370Z; the rear: an aftermarket kit gone bad.
|
The car has been in the media for a while now. Its a joint venture with Subaru and Toyota. There is probably going to be a Toyota version and a Subaru version, the car is going to be RWD and offer a turbo eventually.
|
isn't this supposed to be the AE86 revival? could have sworn i read that somewhere..

Yep |
Looking more and more like a next-gen celica every time they remodel it.
|
The headlights make it look like the car is crying. Crying over a hideous makeover that was in no way necessary over the first prototype.
|
I've been waiting for this car to replace my Mazda 3 daily driver. I want it to stay at around 200 HP and very light weight. But, we've already gone from 1000kg of the first concept (which, of course, is too good to be true for production) to 1350kg or so (around 3k lbs). Hopefully they don't upscale it to 300HP like some older rumors stated. Also, they can get rid of the LEDs in the front -- not a big fan of those right now
|
whats the drivetrain?
|
The front body work has a lot of resemblance to the Z. Just add the fangs. Its are really sharp looking car. I just hope the the streets don't get overly populated with these suckers like the Scion Tc. The agressive styling might turn a lot of people off, maybe the Subie will be more reserved.
A vert would be cool too, something to compete with the Miata. |

i heard about them using Subaru boxer engine, i know Subaru makes good engines but i would like something higher power from Toyota.
|
I have been following this car for a while. I like it, but as with many, many other cars I liked in their early stages I learned not to get to excited. They always seem to screw something up once the production model comes out. A very good example recently the Chevy Volt, it looked amazing all the way up to production then BOOM garbage.

Wasn't subaru the only one saying they are putting the boxer engine in their version.
toyota hasn't said which engine it is for theirs probably the same but whatever. |
I personally dont mind the looks, im not 100% behind them but i dont think they are too bad. I kinda want them to release performance specs already. If the car is going to be in the lower 20k with around 200hp i think it would be kind of a cool car to get for upgrading and beating on without really caring too much if it breaks down and have the Z as your other car, I dont know why but I just wouldn't be able to beat on the Z.
|
Wtb, as long as it has 265+ hp

I'm pretty sure it is gonna have the boxer engine -- this whole effort is part of a collaboration with Subaru. They have even trademarked a "boxer" style 86 log http://blog.caranddriver.com/wp-cont...go-440x225.jpg |
Well, i was following up with this car from one year.
100% the car will have a Boxer engine with turbo that will develop 275+ hp 100% the car will be lower priced than the 370z (they mentioned it in the Reveling of the car at Geneva Motor show) The production will start at the end of this year ( some countries will receive the car at the beginning of 2012) There will be fancy version Which is the FT-86 G ( will include some carbon fiber parts perhaps same the above pics) 0-60 toyo-Baru claiming flat 5 seconds!! well, i bet that all of the above info will be true and u will see them in the production car!! :tiphat: |
^ where did you get all of this info from? I'm not doubting you I just want to see it for my self as this is the first time I'm hearing of this.

i was reading allot of articles for the ft-86, and i came out with the above points! about ft-86 price, one Toyota Senior employees at the Geneva Auto Show, he mentioned Literally that the FT-86 will be cheaper than the 370z!! |
I'm more of a fan of this 'version'

Flat 5 sec. with 275 hp at the crank. I doubt it unless it weights less than 2,000 lbs. and had gobbs of torque. Unlikely since most are saying a N/A 2.0 litre Boxer 4-cylinder. Adding a turbo will place it closer to the Z price range. No way they can justify a turbo'd vesion for under $30K USD. |
Quote:
I don't see it having a turbo. I WANT it to have a turbo, but the 2l boxer they are throwing in it hasn't been mated to a turbo yet. Likewise, I know Toyota was pushing in the NA direction. Also, if it did have a turbo and it is as light as they say it is, it would be faster to 60 than 5 seconds. |

Will definitely be on sale in 2012 in Europe, tho'. Price is, last I heard, in the upper 20K's USD now, but that too has not been confirmed. |
this car would make a nice dd.
|
Looks like a poorman's genesis coupe. :D
