The headlights make it look like the car is crying. Crying over a hideous makeover that was in no way necessary over the first prototype.

I've been waiting for this car to replace my Mazda 3 daily driver. I want it to stay at around 200 HP and very light weight. But, we've already gone from 1000kg of the first concept (which, of course, is too good to be true for production) to 1350kg or so (around 3k lbs). Hopefully they don't upscale it to 300HP like some older rumors stated. Also, they can get rid of the LEDs in the front -- not a big fan of those right now

whats the drivetrain?

Cmike2780 03-03-2011 12:27 PM

The front body work has a lot of resemblance to the Z. Just add the fangs. Its are really sharp looking car. I just hope the the streets don't get overly populated with these suckers like the Scion Tc. The agressive styling might turn a lot of people off, maybe the Subie will be more reserved.

A vert would be cool too, something to compete with the Miata.

I've heard same Subi engine as in the WRX.

It is funny how members on the ft-86 forum say it doesn't slightly resemble a 370. I think it looks good though.

Is it just me? Or does that "thing" look suspiciously like a Genisys (?) Especially from the side.

i heard about them using Subaru boxer engine, i know Subaru makes good engines but i would like something higher power from Toyota.

Mr&Mrs 03-03-2011 03:45 PM

I have been following this car for a while. I like it, but as with many, many other cars I liked in their early stages I learned not to get to excited. They always seem to screw something up once the production model comes out. A very good example recently the Chevy Volt, it looked amazing all the way up to production then BOOM garbage.

A new Subaru 2.0 liter flat 4 N/A "boxer engine" is the standard for both I think. Good for at least 170 horsepower.

Vegitto-kun 03-03-2011 04:32 PM

Wasn't subaru the only one saying they are putting the boxer engine in their version.

toyota hasn't said which engine it is for theirs

probably the same but whatever.

I personally dont mind the looks, im not 100% behind them but i dont think they are too bad. I kinda want them to release performance specs already. If the car is going to be in the lower 20k with around 200hp i think it would be kind of a cool car to get for upgrading and beating on without really caring too much if it breaks down and have the Z as your other car, I dont know why but I just wouldn't be able to beat on the Z.

kkruel55 03-03-2011 06:09 PM

Wtb, as long as it has 265+ hp

Close to my thoughts. Although some folks want it to have true performance specs 300 HP +, my ideal is closer to the first prototype -- lightweight, RWD, around 200 HP, with the top of the line trim under 25K. At that point it becomes a true replacement for my current daily driver and not another performance car -- I've already got my Z, I don't need another performance car that is similar in specs.

I'm pretty sure it is gonna have the boxer engine -- this whole effort is part of a collaboration with Subaru. They have even trademarked a "boxer" style 86 log
