Want an openion on this from others

One of my all time favorite cars is a Ferrari 360 but IMO its very underpowered for todays super car standards. I really want to buy one as a future project car as you can find some used once now for K except I would want to buy one with out an engine as I was thinking of doing an engine swap on it. Now about 99% of people probably wouldn't even consider this, but I was thinking of swapping an LS engine in there, something like an LS3 and than going with a twin turbo set up on it. The stock engine weight of a 360 is around 380 pounds to where the ls3 weight is around 415pounds so this probably wouldn't effect the weight ration too much. I think this would just be a more cost effective way of getting the power for it way up there. I know the handling would be effected but things like weight reduction and moving things around could maybe help out with this.
Not trying to get bitched out by anyone, just want to know others opinion on this.

so you wanna go from driving mommy's toyota straight to a customized f360?

AlphaSnacks 03-03-2011 07:05 PM

To some, that may be sacrilege. But, if I could have a super reliable Ferrari 360, I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Hell, you've given me an idea for something I'd potentially love to do down the line. :)

If you do it Ferrari will tell you to take there symbols off the car LOL

I think they are still selling at around 100K ... Kind of expensive for a project car. Also, the LS3 might be a tight fit given the 360 is mid-engined with very little extra space. Basically for the price of a good used 360 + the price of an LS3 + modifications to chassis and suspension needed for that engine, you might as well get a used F430 and leave it stock.

I was talking down the line as I'm only 18 right now and my Z is coming in at the end of April so i wont be driving my mommy's car for much longer. If I could I would just buy an f430 but I doubt I'll ever be able to afford it and in 10 to 15 years the price of a 360 will be much less and my mind will most likely change about this whole thing, though right now i would definitely love to have it.

Ive also recently found someone that stuck an LSX into a f360 so I guess it can be done, but many people would hate on it and I would probably get kicked out of Ferrari meets.

F360s are going anywhere between 70-100k nowadays.

I think it's sacrilege...but that's just me.

Errr...aaaaah. You do know engine upgrades are available for a 360 right? IMO, if someone did that to a Ferrari, they never belonged in one. Leave this wet dream for Gran Turismo. I've only seen one modification of a Ferrari that worked out for the better, and he spent a lot more than $100K (google search "new Lancia Stratos").

Anything can be done if your pockets are deep enough and are mechanically inclined.

Not something I would necessarily want for myself but whatever floats your boat. Not sure it would be "super reliable" being a swap though, but this is kind of a dreamer thread anyway.

You don't even have your own car yet and you're already talking about swapping LS engines into Ferraris? Dude - grow up a little bit.. Your older self will want to slap you for even thinking about this, let alone post about it online.

^I was thinking the same thing but tried to be nice :icon17:

Let the kid dream out loud, he hasn't had his bubble bursted by life yet.

well atleast he didn't say he was going to put that bugatti Quad turbo W16 engine in it.

Worry about your Nissan for the next few years. Then re-visit the idea of ripping apart an icon to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars and no resale value.

Baby steps.

Work your way up the food chain.

My first car had 225bhp and weighed 4000#
Second car had around 240whp and weighed around 3500#
Third car had around 250whp and weighed 3200#
Fourth car had around 300whp and weighed around 3600#
Fifth car (and current DD) has around 120whp and 3000#
Sixth car has around 440whp and 3200#

I am thankful for what I learned from each and every car before the next. I highly suggest a learning curve. I made a few mistakes along the way with that skinny pedal on the right that taught me some priceless lessons for a pretty cheap fee, all things considered.
