I thought the 2011 Mustang 5.0's were DI? Not so, it seems...

Which indicates more potential at extracting power and fuel economy from that engine:

Mustang 5.0 DI coming? - The Truth About Cars

Anyone here drive a 5.0 and can compare it to the German counterparts (M3, RS5  <- are those even stateside yet?, etc.)? How much refinement does it trade off?

Ford's made a great design effort - I'd like to follow it.

I have not driven the 2011, but I have driven the 05's and used to sell them. The interior on the '11 is much nicer. The chassis is pretty much the same. It feels pretty good. WAY! more solid than the '04 and previous models. Got rid of almost all the flex, even in the 'vert.

m4a1mustang 02-19-2011 06:24 PM

The chassis is not the same. There were significant improvements with the 2010+ cars. The 2011 being even better than the 2010.

As it compares to the M3 and what not, keep in mind that they cost twice as much as a base 5.0. Premium 5.0 to Touring Z (as I have owned both) I'd say is 1:1 in terms of interior refinement and quality to give you an idea. It's a very well built car. Extremely solid. Quality materials. Fit and finish is perfect. Paint quality is amazing. Transmission (6MT) is buttery smooth. The list goes on and on.

If you really want you can get a pretty plush 5.0 with the glass roof package  which is just freaking awesome .

The cool thing about the Mustang is you have a billion different options. There are a number of interior styles to choose from. I have the 401A package with the charcoal seats and cashmere striping. You can get the stripes in red or grabber blue if you want. You can get red seats. You can get plain charcoal or saddle brown seats. You can get red with stripes... Lots to choose from.

If you have any specific details you can just PM me. Don't want to get all the Mustang haters riled up. :)

Also, re: DI, it's coming at some point. Most likely with the 2014 refresh (which is going to be pretty impressive).

Hahahahaaa... this reminds of what happened last night. I'm driving on the I-30e headed to dallas with my wife. I took the 08 altima 3.5 sedan and I'm flying on the freeway at an undisclosed speed. I happen to pass a 2011mustang. Look in my rear view about 30 seconds after I pass the stang. A black 370z is rocketing down the highway at speeds that had to be well over 100mph... now that mustang I had passed was about an 1/8 mile behind me and I can still see him waayyy back in the mirror, but then he's getting closer and closer now he's doing over 100 to catch up to that Z. Lol
Well it seems that there's a lot of mustang hate toward nissan cuz...
Why would a 5.0ltr V8... let me reiterate, V8, 414hp car owner wanna flex his muscles on a 3.7ltr V6??? With all the v8 vettes, camaros challengers and individua customized stangs in the dfw area... why do most stangs chase 6 cylinder drivers. Whenever I drove the G and a mustang would see me going faster than him he would act like he wants to race.
If you ask me... that's kinda pu$$y of muscle car guys. Anyway. I wasn't even trying to get on either one of them guys level but from what I can see in the distance ahead. The Z was out and the mustang was gonna have to drive really dangerously to catch up.

m4a1mustang 02-20-2011 10:05 AM

Why do some Z owners feel the need to flex their muscle against Scions, Civics, etc? It's all the driver, not the car. If you feel "small" and feel the need to "flex your muscle" that's a personal problem and really is not associated to the car at all.

If you don't care you just continue to drive about your merry way without caring about what other people are doing. I suspect that's how the vast majority of us behave while we are out on the road.

In fact, the 370Z gets A LOT of respect on the Mustang boards. Lots of guys really like the car (much more than the 350). When I posted my "intro" thread on one of the Mustang boards all they wanted to know was how I liked my Z and how much they like them.

I see it as about 70/30 over there. Pretty similar to here. :D

Ever notice how a high percentage of the mod threads are about handling over there and about power bump over here? We are all trying to make the same car! :D

OP'd this for discussion; thanks for the replies.

Though I don't think I'd ever buy a 'Stang, I'm amazed at the engine. I know there's a big price diff, but want to get an idea what's traded off. That mill needs to go places, and if DI w/a power boost... wow.

My Dad has a 'Stang, 40th Anniv. - it's always been his dream car. He totalled his '67 3spd in the late 70's and walked away unscratched - thank God. But I'm never gonna forgive him - I'm sure that was supposed to be my hand-me-down. :shakes head: If it had come to pass, I probably would've wound up test driving and purchasing a current model Mustang.

Is this true? I've actually read that they have some clutch issues.

On some of the earlier builds there was a clutch stayout issues. Basically, in some WOT-shift instances the clutch wouldn't come back off the floor (cars built before June '10) and Ford issued a TSB to fix it.

The funny thing was all the service requests mentioned that it only happens at the track. Seems like any other manufacturer would be like, "well, that's outside the scope of the vehicle" but they went ahead and issued a TSB. There is also a TSB out there to revise the tune for people who like to Auto-X but want to stay in the stock class.
