The "Boss"
Just finished watching a show on speed channel all about the Boss 302. It's going to basically a full blown track car with license plates. They even Conway with 2 separate keys. One for DD and the "race" key. The "race" key enables launch control, enables the race tune, etc. Pretty ingenious! Once it comes out it will start from $40k and up. Anyways here a link about it.

Saw most of the show too. It was good. But I'd rather have a button than 2 different keys.
|
I dont know I wish Ford went all out like the nismo as far as appearance all of their models look so similar.
|
Just remember which key you give to the valet guy :eekdance:

But if their gonna go through all that trouble with different keys, most cars have a valet key already anyway. Why not limit the crap out of it as well then, like 2000rpm's and 15mph or something. |
They did different keys so they don't need to worry about passing EPA with the "race" key. Since it is sold as a separate "track-only" addition, it doesn't need to pass any emissions testing or MPG standards.

The Red key is a $300 "off road use only" option. This keeps the EPA away. |
hmmm cant wait, i just order my Red GTR start button...hoping for similar results!

I think the Laguna Seca edition is going to be a hot commodity. A true track ready car that you can take from the dealer showroom to the race track. Nismo should take note and produce a Nismo Suzuka edition.
|
Would it kill Ford to get some new interior designers???? That looks like something right out of the 70's as have all the interiors coming out of the US lately. :shakes head:

I'm now starting to think about getting the Boss Laguna Seca next year and keeping the Z as my DD. Soooooo tempting.

The Camaro cluster is pretty bad. At least the Premium GT cluster looks pretty decent. After a while you get used to the faces but the Boss and GT500 definitely look better. The good thing about Ford Racing is they are probably going to make the Boss cluster available for sale without a vin number. I could get the GT500 one right now but since it uses the 5.4L the tach is off (and of course there's also that pesky boost gauge that has no relevance... yet).
|
such a sweet ride.
|
2 keys? One for reg and one for all out? So do you get 4 keys altogether? Looks like they took a page from personal watercraft. One key to limit its rpms for beginners and one for the one who knows what they are doing. But yeah I think a button or switch would have been better. Normal key probably doesn't restrict it that much. That would be kinda cool. You give the rpm restricted valet key to drop your car off. They won't be able to rag it then.

I think using the regular key on the boss compared with a GT would be like the difference between a nismo and base Z.

So the only time the blue key get used is where you get your yearly inspection or lone it to your son on prom night.

The Boss is SICK. I like the idea of Z as DD and Boss as track car; good thought.
I can't wait until this comes out and starts racing; can't wait for the model either!! |
Co-worker (loves mustangs) said someone is complaining on one of his forums that he cannot order the Boss with sync. :rofl2:
|
I find it strange that ford limited the option of the synch when it really doesnt effect the rest of production on the car.

This car was built focused as a track car. Adding sync would do nothing but bloat the price (and perhaps the weight?). I love what they did with this car. They took the normal GT, and beat the snot out of it for a year on various tracks, and basically told the engineers everything they needed to "fix" in order for it to be highly competitive on the track.

Just saying that if I was in the market for the boss I'd want the synch. It's not that much heavier than the regular radio that goes in it.

I agree. I love the Boss, but I'd never use it as a daily driver. It'd be a weekend warrior / track queen only. Plus you don't need no stinkin' stereo when you've got side-pipe cutouts. |
I just can't spend that much money on a car and not drive it every day. And I would use the red key on the road.
