realistically I think the car will be closer to 3000lbs. I mean just to give you an idea the current Miata is roughly 2700lbs. The FT86 concept is a much larger car, has a rear seat, and will have a larger 2.5 4cly with the addition of turbo components. Unless then plan to make the car all aluminum, carbon fiber, and fiberglass (which would only drive the car north of 30k) I doubt the car will be under 3000lbs.
Which brings me to my next point. By 2013 305hp in the 25-30k market is going to be nothing special. I mean think about it, right now you can get a base 370z for 30k with 332hp or a base mustang GT with 412hp. I'm not dogging the concept and idea, I just think Toyota and Subaru need to get more competitive. Even the Suby and Evo forums complain that their cars are falling behind the times considering the current competition. I really hope this car comes out well as it will only create more competition and variety in the market. With the right motor the Subaru version could be like a baby GTR. |

DAMN!
If this car is 2700 pounds and 305 horses! That's pretty sick for a turbo rwd costing about 25,000! GJ Toyota! Wish Mitsubishi and Subbie teamed up for a GTR Killer under 80,000

With that power and that curb weight, you are looking at about a 4.5 sec 0-60, sub 12.5 sec 1/4 mile car. With that kind of curb weight, handling should be a breeze to set up. This is going to be a serious car if they actually pull it off.

as said earlier, this WILL NOT be a 2700 pound car. Maybe in the late 90's it could have been, but US safety standards will bloat this car similar to the Z. Without the safety equipment, the Z is 3160 pound car. This car will be about 3050 to 3100. Heck, a 08 STi is 3318. Minus 250 pounds for AWD and the extra doors and you are sitting at 3068.
Unless they use lighter weight materials and ballon the cost to $35 to 40k. Then that would be interesting. |

Interesting pics....
FT86 concept size compared to other cars | Tune86 - FT-86 news If those pics are accurate, this thing is tiny! I think they may have fudged a bit.
