g37s Transmission Rreverse Problem

my friend found a 2008 G37S the car is clean and he's interesting in buying the car, there are no mechanical problems except one!

when he put the gear in R, the car go reverse but very slow, its like the car feels heavy! the D is working fine and the transmission shifting smoothly!

do you think that this is a big issue, or its a minor problem. maybe need to change some sensor or something!!

any advice?

Reverse gear sounds shot or it may just need the transmission fluid checked? it maybe low.

well, the transmission fluid level is ok.

i drove the car and it felt heavy in reverse and you need accelerate little bit to make it move as normal!!

so you think its mostly a minor issue?

Negative the reverse gear will need to be looked at then, cost? I have no idea.
Maybe someone else with can chime in to help.

The reverse is not suppose to feel heavy, I would take it to a mechanic.

That's bad news and I would stay away, keep looking that car is to new to already have transmission problems... Although for that same reason I would strongly suggest a manual trans but that's beside the point.

It could be the valve body, perhaps. I'm not sure, but if all the forward gears appear to be working correctly then the torque convert is probably fine, but I don't really know what electronic black magic is going on in these newfangled auto's either I suppose it's possible it could be a simple fix but it would still need to be checked by someone knowledgeable enough to know.

my friend will take the car to a mechanic before he purchase it.

We had a problem in my mother 2006 Altima, the transmission was shocking hard in each shift!! i thought it was something serious!

but the problem only was with one of the sensors and they changed it for 80$!!

the problem in Bahrain or the gulf region is that the weather is mostly Dusty so these sensors always got problems!

so i hope the G got the same problem!

These days with the computer controlled transmissions allot of times even seemingly very serious problems can just be a simple electrical problem. But I am leary of any automatic and would be very concerned with the long term effects and potential damage it may have caused. Although in this case if it feel like it shifts fine and just takes extra throttle it's probably not hurting anything, it sounds like it might just be in some sort of safety mode or dirty fluid, etc.

Every automatic I have ever had has failed on me So that's where I am coming from when I say to stay away, manuals are so much more fun anyway. Real men shift for themselves
Admittedly transmissions have come a long way since the last auto I've had but I still don't like them.

Don't they cut the throttle response in reverse on the automatics of certain cars? I thought I had read that somewhere. How does it accelerates fine if you floor it in reverse? (Make sure you have plenty of space, LOL)
