Yeah but we all know that given the new cars they are churning out the C7 is going to be a whole different ball game. Whenever that is, of course.

Yep, it will probably have cylinder de-activation, non-defeatable traction aids, and other junk that I would pay not to have.

I wish they could just fix the interior, evolve the handling/driveline performance, and leave the rest of the car alone. Just more stuff to break it seems.

The Z06 is a beast. I LOVE them. That said, I still like my Z purchase better. The Z is a tighter handler to me/more nimble, I LOVE the looks, and feel I have more fun driving it than the Z06. The Z is more than fast enough for me now. My list for anything else but the Z would be:

1. Used GTR
2. 2010 Z06

If u want a zo6 get a zo6 if u want a Z keep the Z. If u bought the z and now want the zo6 get the zo6. If u got a zo6 and now want a z get the z

One caveate is that you will have an easier time going from a Z06 to a 370Z, financially. Start big, go small if you don't like it. If you start small, you will be a bit more "stuck" for a while.

This is somewhat true. I mean, I agree, but one has to do their homework up front to see how "big" they can afford to go. The answer may be not to go big or small, but to wait a while so you can go big later.

Wish I'd have waited to purchase. I mean, I absolutely love my Z, but I could have gotten a much better price if I'd have bought it now rather than the end of spring. :rofl2:

You know it's best not to think about these things. If I never sold my paid off '06 Civic for my Z (and then the Z for the Mustang) I would have saved tens of thousands in depreciation and mods. If you can afford it, do whatever you have to do to make yourself happy and try not to look back at all the money you would have saved if only you weren't a hopeless car guy.

kev i had the opertunity to race a z06 vs my twin turbo the other day. ive been waiting for a long time ever since i had the tt installed. i was on way to work the other day on a very secluded new highway and had someone(eye witness) following me so i was going 70 when in the distance saw a car approaching very quick prob going 90 or so which most people do on this particular road due to its wide open and never cops. i realize it was a vette and i was going to have fun so when he was about 2 car links behind me i hit it then he rolled down window and wanted to race so we slowed back to 70 and hit it and let off at 120 and i was a good car link ahead starting in fourth gear at 70. then realized it was a z06 and almost couldnt contain myself then he wanted more so we slowed down to 60 and he blew the horn as usual and hit the gas before i did but i was at his back door and in 3rd gear punched it and i hit every gear perfect and at 130 we both let off and i was still at his back door dead even tie. kinda made me sad cause i just beat him right before that. of course he gets me to pull off the road to talk and my buddy who was watching it comes up behind and stops too. this guy was amazed by my car and wanted to know what all i had done to it and said that i beat him all motor and he was "spraying the hell out of it" that last time and thats when i noticed the bottle of NOS in his back window. He said he was trading his 08 ZO6 in for a 370. that day made it all worth it.

If I already had a Z06 and was not having finance issues, I would not sell the Z06 for a Z...... Just like as I have a Z, I will not get rid of it for a Z06....

It's never about money with a sports car. Total luxury item. If you think you are going to ever "look back and regret" loss of value, then you need to stick with simple things like a used camry, etc. Cars are a horrible monetary investment, but I find them to be a very good investment in the fun-factor. I have less fun staring at money than driving a fun car.

I think you all may have misunderstood.

Lets say you buy a Z06, well, an '06-'07, not so much, but lets say a newer one. You are going to be upside down in it for a while and if you traded it in on a 370Z, you would add a few K to the price of the Z to account for that. You would STILL be paying much less for the 370 than you previously had been, and the bank might go for it.

Now, lets say you buy a newer Z, and don't like it. Now you want a Z06. A newer one. You are going to tack 5-8K onto the price of a $65K car. Your bank won't bite nearly so fast.

This is all assuming you don't do 1/2 down or something to begin with.

What kind of numbers did your TT kit put down? A Z06 can run a 10-second 1/4 mile at 129mph in bone-stock trim with an absurd driver. Most average guys run mid/high 11's@123-126. With him spraying (unless he was lying), we can assume at least a 125 shot. That would add about 10mph to a trap-speed if he hooked it up, meaning you mashed on a car that traps DEEP into the 130's, from a roll. 'grats! I am curious about the numbers yours runs at the track, though, as I have learned that anything can happen on the street.

I've considered this as well but I'm worried about maintenance costs. I'm not real familiar with domestics and I don't really want to buy another car thats been ragged on. I do have my eye on a low mile used 2008 M3. At least with that car I can work on but the cost of the parts come into play. Grr... :D

The BlueMax 12-23-2010 09:48 PM

I considered a 06/07 vette but with the Z51 pkg. you get a 6.2 liter LS3 upgraded suspension and tires and a interesting wide ratio 6speed that allows you to keep it in 1st gear until 60mph the torque pulls, but there are a lot of vettes out there along with the other issues discussed in this thread

After seeing all the B.$. my buddy's 335i puts him thru, a used Bimmer was contemplated by me (along w/P-car) when shopping, but I'm glad I didn't pull the trigger. A straight dino oil change was $135+. He changed it at his cost with 8k miles since he couldn't wait until 15k miles for the "free" one. He was "surprised" it was as black as it was; "it's a new engine!". ;)

Snow chains for the rear tires cost $500. He's going Autozone now, LOL. :icon14:

i would like to know how much power you are putting to the ground as well. i had a TT 350z with a built motor with 525whp and nearly 8k rpm redline. i could still barely keep up with a stock Z06 due to their gearing i think. im not to sure but i had more whp then him and was not but 150-200 lbs more in weight so why would i not pull on him? a TT kit is more then i would like to spend on this car and not have a warranty. the Z06 is going to be as fast if not faster then a TT 370Z and still have a warranty. you add 2k in mods and i dont think a TT 370Z will touch a Z06. but i do love how fun the 370 is to drive and some more power would add to this and i do agree about the **** *** interior of the Vette. maybe i could wait another year or 2 and get a first year model GTR.
