The Genesis project.
recently i've warned a few memeber here about the Genesis.
i wish to clarify. 1 the 3.8 v6 Gen coupe track...is no threat to the Z ...it would require an estimated 2500 to get it to equal acceleration performance and possibly get close to the Z's lateral G numbers.. if it can at all....lowering and differnt sized rubber along with more chassis stiffening. 2. the 2.0T......its a mess . programming is gonna be the big issue...getting a bigger turbo and injector/fuel pump. return fuel line, intercooler, ic piping ,exhaust and intake...will not be cheap..... the spec r 2.0t is no threat whatsover in stock form. and would require...for an average Joe who has the work done for him.....4-6k to do all of the above mentioned mods and even then....350rwh or 400.....isn't all that impressive.....i beleive through NA mods the Z can attain close to 350 rwhp.....and its supension and braking are already superior. ( this is coming from a C6 Zo6 owner) 3. Hyundai is gonna screw the pooche. they will overprice their car right into the Z range. For fun i contacted a dealer for a 3.8 v6 6 speed 0-60 in 5.9 stock..... they want 30k+ in retropsec i went hunting for end of the month deals..... i can now get a 370Z for a cool 31900 ..with sport package.....if you ready to deal. and have a cashier check in hand... In short... yes there will be some fast 2.0t genesis's and i'm sure( since i've seen headers and catback and intake for the V6 Genesis) some quick V6 Genesis's as well.....but the Z is so far ahead out of the gate for just barely 1k more.... and as of right now the only correction for the Z thats an absolute need, is the ext oil cooler. In summation.....i feel bad for Hyundai. They had the right idea...but they HAVE to know that for 1k differnce.....A Nissan Z has prestige, and heritage. and there is already enough NA aplication mods for it to make it as fast as any stock LS1 ever was. And i would know. Now there is a caveat.....all those mods made for the Nissan 3.5 and 3.7 nissans.....could theorectically be reengineered for the V6 3.8... aps TT should have no issue putting a lower boost twin turbo kit on the genesis..... the fact remains that if you do the same to the Z you'll kick the Hyundai off the track. I've been doing alot of research and talking...with the genesis crowd. sadly and appoligetically i was wrong.. i beleived the hype. And was gonna get a 2.0 for my son..... Now mind you..it is Not an ugly car. if you think so you need to see a Black or red in person. they are nice...but not 30k nice.....a 5.9 0-60 doesn't cut it.......that 1.2 seconds slower than the fastest 370z tested times. that so significan't..... Now the V6 may have abit more in it that hyundai is protecing for warranteee reasons......but its a No Joy contest with the 3.7 Nissan mill. thanks for reading....any input is appreciated( except for typing critque..lol i know) Last edited by Zpil0t6; 03-22-2009 at 11:49 AM. |

2010 Ford Mustang GT vs. 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe vs 2009 Nissan 370Z - Specs and Test Data - Comparison - Motor Trend
Kinda agree. For a car that costs $30K dollars, the numbers aren't too good compared to Z. |

I did deep research. I't a nice car...and a good try...but if it was baseball a double at best.....hell i have a Sonata....with 230 hp....and it seemed just a tad slower. Yep my daily throw anything inti it...hardly ever wash it car is a Sonata.....its pretty good car. So i though MAybe they could pull it off. There is one more thing....that may turbn everything around.....hyundai is hinting on Maybe putting in the 4.6 v8 in the coupe...now that with six speed at 375 hp and V8 torque would be a winner at the coupes weight.... but again sadly the Sedan with V8 isn't that fast either. I don't get it.....i've seen the dyno's....the tranny is a great one... gearing.. concern that its gotta feel luxurious... they have to commit to making a pure sports car. Now the Zo6 is a extreme example, but its not a terrible sport ride ..in fact its very comfortable as is the 370 Z ( moreso and similar lateral G's amazing) both my Z's are outstanding examples of how performance doesn't have to be "rough" Last edited by Zpil0t6; 03-22-2009 at 12:43 PM. |

This is a highly debated issue but now that it has been covered six times. The best place to discuss this vehicle is in the "other vehicles" section in the Off Topic portion of the forum.
Most of these numbers are not new and have been discussed if you do a search for *genesis* Thanks for the ambition for trying to warn members here but most people here aren't cross shopping the Genesis too hard(if at all) and most of the ones that were have left already. |

Making a car look fast doesn't make it fast or handle well
i thought....you all like to hear it from a tuner shop owner. i tried to justify some simple mods to the V6 genesis....but realized right away that the cost would easily rise above a sport pak 370z And i mingled with the most enthusiastic owners and tunershops that will specialize on the genesis.....has any other thread done such a personal job? And then Hyundai.....they are a loser.....because" if "they were to sell this car for 27k.... then its a viable alternative. the 2.0 is a mess...the V6 is ok don't know were the HP is....( the 2.0 is a mess not because the parts are hard to come by....but the tuning and possible piggyback ecu may be very costly to make run correctly.) You guys are pretty unappreciative. Why ? Zo6 maybe Last edited by Zpil0t6; 03-23-2009 at 10:10 AM. |

Yes your post was informative and such.. No argument there But....Just what kind of response are you (or similar posters) looking for? You posted this topic in the 370z area,( not in the other vehicles forum btw) on a Nissan 370z site. Which, as you know are mainly frequented by people who either own, thinking of buying or just plain interested in the Nissan 370z.. The majority don't come here looking for info on Hyundai's or Chevy's. Do the same on their respective forums..See how many 370 fans you can get there. And the old "No true auto enthusiasts here" or "Fanboys" lines won't fly here as well... Do a search..This topic (different makes as well) was posted and discussed numerous times by different posters. Sorry to say..Just because you and other fans of the Genesis like the car.. There's always going to be equal numbers who hate it...

It's a sharp looking car, even though it looks like the offspring of a Civic & BMW... kind of. What turns me off so much about Hyundai (besides the lackluster performance) is how they rip off styling queues from other brands. Despite that, they did an overall good job of putting it together aesthetically.

FYI, the fastest time for the Genesis Coupe was a 5.5 (Motor trend) WITHOUT the ECU reflash correction exihibited by the early production models. Edmunds.com did a retest of their Genesis coupe with the reflash and reduced their 0-60 time by 0.5 secs from 6.4 to 5.9. Based off this number, you could theoretically take off 0.5 seconds off the 5.5 times to make it 5.0 sec flat. Not to shabby IF this holds true. 370Z = 4.7 Genesis Coupe = 5.5 (with 2 additional seats) Last edited by ConceptVBS; 03-24-2009 at 01:07 AM. |
