Default To Supercharge or NOT to Supercharge...

Well, gentlemen, as most of you know, i've been a slave to uncle sam for many years now and i've yet again signed 4 more years of my life away (no biggie, i'll be retiring at 37, woot.) Anyways, this has paved the way for this sucker to receive a rather large sum of money, $15,000 after taxes. So here is my predicament, I'm getting stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany next July. And the Stang in its current state, is almost too fast for most regular folk, however, I'm not regular folk, I want more juice. Its been a goal of mine since I bought the car, to add a blower and take it to a minimum of 500whp, I think that would satisfy my DD struttin around town needs.

Now onto the problem... Europe has VERY strict emission laws, i'm talkin California strict. Now, for me, this isnt a problem, because all I would have to do is order a kit, and have it shipped by the Army with my household goods and install it once I have my car registered there. But today a coworker brought up a good point. Once I get there, register my car and install the supercharger, what happens if or when an issue may arise pertaining to the system? Being in Europe and having a car issue is going to be a huuuge headache, especially since it'll be my only car. I have the funds now to build the car i've always wanted, but little crap like this bothers me, what do yall think?

I think just the big V8 without a supercharger will be awesome enough in Germany. I would save the money and forego the supercharger. You are going to be turning heads everywhere as it is.

maybe true anywhere away from the military community but the town i'm going to be living in is nothing but military and Germicans lol. There'll be plenty stangs around there for sure.

If you go with the FRPP 525whp kit I don't think you would have any reason to worry but I'd say the "what if" might not make it worth it. Considering we can get upwards of 430whp with the basic bolt ons I'd just do that.

If I had your car this is what id do with that cash:

Steeda CAI and Tune
Steeda shifter
GT500 steering wheel
FRPP Handling Pack (you'll want this!)
Stainless steel brake lines and upgraded pads/fluid

I'd be tempted to run a quieter exhaust, too, since you probably don't want to piss off the local authorities too much. Swap the muffler deletes for a GT500 axle back.... quieter but still a sweet, sweet sound.

So then you're talking about around a 460 hp car with a sweet suspension.

Invest the rest of your cash and supercharge when you get back stateside.

thats actually a damn good plan man... definitely gave me some things to think about, thanks for the advice!

If you have the cash, go for it.

See if you can locate a tuner shop wherever you will be -- it's not as if modding cars only happens in the States...

If there's a way around emissions issues, they'll certainly know about it and be able to help you out.

Then you are set -- have fun

I still think the suspension + bolt on route is best. You can add some new wheels and tires too. The RTR wheels look really good on the Mustang. They are a similar style to the Avant Garde and Forgestar F14 wheels some are running on their Zs.

I doubt you'll want a straight-line oriented car out in Germany. There will be too many fun roads and just that fact that you WILL be running the Nurburgring a time or two should be enough to make you upgrade the base suspension and brakes. Mmmmm... Nurburgring...

Actually, since you WILL be on the Nurburgring, you might want to look into the FRPP Brembo front caliper upgrade. I'm not sure if I would trust the base calipers, even with upgraded pads/lines/fluid, to last a full lap or two.
