I believe that the Cayman is good to drive. But, I was under the impression (perhaps via Porscheophile 911 propaganda) that the Cayman and Boxster engines are not built to the same standards as the engines for the flagship 911 models. If true, then bringing it up 30 some HP might overly stress the engine without the better tolerances that a better made engine has. It might be entirely possible to add the missing HP for under 17k (the difference between the base 911 and the Cayman S), but could they do it in a way that maintains build quality and reliability?

i worked at a porsche dealership, trust me... they are the same the cayman may not have quite as robust bearings but the block, heads, etc are all the same. there are different intake and exhaust manifolds due to the different car layout but that's about it on the physical parts. the 911's engine sits completely at the rear of the car with the flywheel facing forward going straight into the trans/diff. the boxter/cayman is identical, just flipped around with the engine in front of the rear axle line going into the trans/diff combo

Interesting .... So perhaps it's only their top end models that are built significantly better. In any event, from a marketing perspective a 69 - 72k Cayman doesn't make sense unless they are planning to drop the 911 ... and they tried that once already

I mean, I completely agree that they know what they're doing from a business perspective. Again, it's working. But I think the Cayman could be tricked out to compete. I'd love to see it. Of course, rumor has it that part of the reason the Fiero was killed was because it was stealing Corvette sales. |

Yup, that's probably also the 370Z Roadsters's least attractive angle as well. Gotta put all that roof hardware someplace!

That back ends looks versatile. Would make a great washboard or cheese grater.

No love for the Porsche? Well with only 356 of them being made people will probably end up paying more than 200k for them even if that is the list price.
