Ford had huge success by going retro with the mustang, so GM/Chrysler tried it and I think they missed the boat.

Camero
Challenger
GTO (this could have been huge, but fell short)

You forgot to throw the Charger nameplate on there, which failed as egregiously as the GTO in terms of "retro name, modern bland design"

So, Ford had no idea that Chevy was developing the Camaro while they were developing the '11 Mustang? Maybe I'm too much a skeptic at heart, but I don't buy it, guys.

The original Camaro design was in 2006, but no one knew how the engine was going to perform. Early estimates put the Camaro in the 12.6-.8 range of the 1/4 mile, and look where it ended up, the 13.1 (13.0 with a very very good driver).

Not saying nothing the Camaro did pushed the new 5.0 in some ways, but the current Mustang as we see it was already on schedule just when it launched was uncertain.

Competition is a good thing for consumers, just like the cell phone makers are always innovating and making phones smarter, faster and better. It's no different for cars.

Ford went with a nice retro.
Government Motors went with cheesy retro, I loved the look of the car but then I sat in it, and almost puked on the center console which looks hideous.

Then you take a look at the weight 3900 pounds Vs. the 3600 for the mustang, which pretty much killed it for auto-x.

And then GM put on 20 and 21 inch :nutswinger: wheels and that completely killed it for auto-x due to the complete lack of decent race rubber.

I was actually looking at a rustang before buying the Z but no one had any clues about the performance packages and other options I was looking for...

It's a large amount of fun..... We need to start a Z refugee club..

Probably not Lou...My standard VTDA box (a single) starts to choke up over 350 hp...Great on the Audi's and VW's it was designed for, but not appropriate here. The Stang is probably pushing 450 hp now with the intake/tune/exhaust. This is a Steeda System which integrates the front fresh air grill feed. IAT's at ambient...Can't get much better than that!

Yup!...I eventually changed colors, but 3.73's and the Brembo's were the key!

haha you guys got it all wrong.. if your going to sell the Z at least get something German :icon17: Seriously though if i were to sell the Z, it wouldnt be on another mustang. Only because i owned one in the past, and i doubt more HP will convince me to go back. I think right now for me i would be happy with a 135i at or around 450wheel. For the price range i cant think of anything else new i would rather have, ok maybe STI/EVO but the interiors are worse than the stang lol. If I was buying used give me a 996tt or a 997tt

What year did you own? My previous Mustang was a 2003 GT. It's amazing how much they've changed.

Been there, done that. Don't need to do it again. I've Had 8 Porsches over the years including 993's, a Boxster, numerous 911's of every generation etc.. Looking for new experiences here! Besides, I have a German (well...Brazilian..) car in the driveway... 2003 GTI anniversary edition with 13K on the clock. It's a hoot! They're BOTH a hoot in very different ways.

If it was a 2010, I can see this statement holding some truth.

Nitex 09-08-2010 01:20 PM

Was 2001 gt, and im sure it has changed quite a bit. I have no doubt a test drive could change my views. As the v-6 stang is now as fast as my old GT haha. I think eventually i would like a compromise between my 2004 Audi A4 and my Mustang/Z. Comfort of the the Audi, engine of the Mustang, looks of the Z!

I realize there is a huge dif between 2001 and 2011. I was joking to some degree. But i think the last post about looking for new things was more or less what i was referring to. Regardless of how much it has changed over the years, its still a stang.
