Pulls harder than the Z on the highway for sure, but like you said, it's not a crazy difference. The big differences are in the first few gears. The Z is pretty fast when it's already moving.

I would still expect my Mustang to pull on my Z pretty good from a highway roll, though. Nothing crazy like it would from a stop, but I think you'd have to be at like a 100+ roll for the Z and it's lighter weight and better drag numbers to even the fight out.

But, FWIW, I try not to compare the two cars. They are vastly different and I love them both for what they are.

I will say this is the first respectable pony car since the ol school era. but it did not feel so much OMGness faster than my Z, infact at highway speeds it felt the same, and it def felt slower than my C6. I still say that motor trend glorious stock run of 12.7 was inflated bologna, especially after driving it.

the one you drove probably had the stock 3.31 gears, the 3.55s/3.73's would add quite a bit to the low end grunt, and yeah, guys are posting mid to high 12's in stock trim with the 3.73 gears, which if installed by yourself, can be had for less than $200:tup:

Chevrolet wants to challenge the 5.0 Mustang GT with their new Camaro Z28. We'll see how that goes.

They have been testing the Z28 against a GT500 right now, closed course and everything but some spy shots have been leaked.

Wonder how far they're willing to let it encroach on the Vette in terms of performance and cost.

Why? The Z28 is supercharged. :shakes head:

It doesn't matter. GM will make the same mistakes it's always made and the Camaro will die off once again.

Although, you have to admit, the Camaro raised the bar enough for Ford to get off its duff and finally make the Stang a contender again.

Ford was planning on it all along. They don't react to anything GM/Camaro does. They do what they do and it works.

:ugh2:

That's a bit ridiculous. It's like saying that Ferrari doesn't react to what Lambo or Porsche are up to.

They're direct competitors, they react to each other.

theDreamer 09-08-2010 11:27 AM

The thing was the Camaro launched in what? Mid-2009
Ford already had the 5.0 under development way before, I think the only decision Ford had to pick was what year they wanted to launch it in.

So, Ford had no idea that Chevy was developing the Camaro while they were developing the '11 Mustang? Maybe I'm too much a skeptic at heart, but I don't buy it, guys.

You might not buy that, but you will buy my intakes. Or else.

They do react, they just do it wrong.
Ford had huge success by going retro with the mustang, so GM/Chrysler tried it and I think they missed the boat.

Camero
Challenger
GTO (this could have been huge, but fell short)
