there is a lock, if you look on the inside of the cup holder area, it flush against the cubby, use your ignition key to lock it.

Awesome... didn't even notice that.

The reason I asked, though, was because I was in my office and did not have the manual at hand.

what does it do? split the rear axle into two wishbones? :p:stirthepot:

seriously though, how does it feel compared to the z vdc system? does it allow more drifting? and does it catch the car in time or is there a risk of spinning out? i find the vdc very intrusive and annoying on dry road. on the wet when i was on the track last sunday however, i would have prefered an even more conservative setting of the vdc. the asphalt was very slippery and the vdc reaction time was a bit slow compared to dry road. it eventually stabilized the car but in many turns i had to countersteer initially for a fraction of a second before the vdc kicked in and took over and saved the car.

Sport Mode lets you slide the car and spin the tires like hell. It only kicks in when it feels like it needs to. If you spin the tires too much it will dial throttle back but nothing like VDC where it totally kills your forward momentum. Mustang's Sport Mode makes VDC look like a joke as far as performance driving is concerned.

Like any stability control system, there is always a risk of spinning out or crashing if you go in WAY too hot.

I'd say in normal mode, though, the Mustang's stability and traction control function just about the same as VDC does.

FWIW the Stability/Traction control systems are tuned slightly differently on the Brembo/Non-Brembo cars. The system lets you go a little bit further with the Brembo car.

i think my friends dad is getting a new 5.0 soon if he sells his bike

Pushing_Tin 09-09-2010 11:41 PM

This is one of the major omissions in the Z. It needs a sport, or enthusiast setting to allow more fun, but not crash into a 7-11 fun.

wilsonp 09-09-2010 11:51 PM

I have the 2009 & 2010 370Z owners guides of all types on my iPad for easy access.

Goto motocraftservice.com and you can download the 2011 Mustang manual where you will discover you have a locking bin but mo hints on where to access the lock :)

Then buy an iPad and always have your manual with you!

(I recommend GoodReader door PDF reading on the iPad.)

The one thing I'd take from the 'Stang to the Z is it's engine management's ability to safely move between 87 and 91 octane gas. The stang goes from 412 hp to 405 hp to do this. I would have thought the drop would be much higher.

That is nice. So far I've been running 93, haven't tried it on 87 or 89 yet. Not that it really matters because I'll getting an exclusively 93 octane tune in the near future.

Yeh the "stang" ain't even man enough to sport Black Cherry.

Lemers 09-10-2010 01:32 PM

Didn't Carroll Shelby even call the mustang a "secretaries car"

m4a1mustang 09-10-2010 01:34 PM

Probably the inline six from back in the day.

2010 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport vs. 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 ? Performance Car Road Test on RoadandTrack.com

Red370 09-10-2010 03:21 PM

Corvette: Pwned. That GT500 really is a modern marvel of technology, a car that weighs 4k should not handle like it does. Only reason the 0-60 is slightly slower is obviously the weight, and i'm pretty sure its a bitch to get to grip as well. Chevy better bring it with that Z28.

The Vette was still faster, but not by much. The Stang was significantly less expensive, which is why it won this comparo. But given this result, I'd like to see its raw stats against a base Corvette! I wonder if it would pull it. The Vette in the test was a GS!

if you were 700 lbs lighter you'd be faster too! I want to see the 1/4 mile ET's.

Sibze 09-10-2010 03:32 PM

The Base Vette would prob do the same would it not??? The brand Sport doesn't add power.

They tied 0-100 (9.2 sec) which means the 'stang was gaining on the vette the whole time.

The Grand Sport is mainly upgraded suspention parts for better track performance.

Sibze 09-10-2010 03:39 PM

Ya, so 1/4, 0-60 shouldn't be TOOOO much. Braking would be a big difference I am sure, it has the Z06 brakes

No power, but better suspension and brakes. I want to see them both go around a turny track. Screw the stats, give me lap times.

Edit: In fact, the comparo would have been more apt, since a base 1LT Corvette costs almost the exact same amount in MSRP as a Shelby GT500 Mustang.

I now call shenanigans! Part of what they gave the Stang over the Vette was its affordability! Why not see how it stacks up with the base coupe?!

280z/300zx 09-10-2010 07:43 PM

So the GT500 does the 1/4 mile in 12.6 but the regular GT mustang does it in 12.7-12.8. Not sure I see the quantification for the price increase even if the GT500 handles better than the regular GT mustang. I think I would prefer the 30k GT and then add a couple grand into suspension and power mods.
