Default Drove an 06' WRX today...

A coworker of mine has an 06', making 330whp and 350 ft./lbs, I let him drive my Z a bit ago so I asked him if I could take his for a spin today while we were at work. And as much as I hate to admit it, I actually really enjoyed the car, and it definitely made me think long and hard about what my next car is going to be, and I will say that it will come with a factory turbo, that thing was a blast to drive. Anyone here come from an STI or WRX? if so, how do you feel it compares to the Z?

looking at the new STI's, the WRX is a waaaay better value, which would probably be what i'd get for my next car, they really came a long way with the Impreza platform.

thats one of the things that impressed me the most, the torque was STUPID in that thing. All he has is a downpipe, midpipe and a Cobb AP tune, less than 2k and making over 300whp and 350 ft/lbs, it upsets me a bit

I did a install on one a while back he let me take it out it was crazy as soon as the turbo kicked in you were back in the seat. i have also driven two 370z's and a 350z. I would take the 370 if you want to be more sporty and have people turn heads when you pull in plus it is more classy. If you need the room go with the sti or wrx.

They are fun cars, even bone stock. I'm not the type to hate on any car... if it's fun I will admit it!

I had an 06 WRX prior to my 370z. I had a CBE and stage 1 cobb tune on it. Really fun car and despite body roll, it had good handling. Got taken out by a full size toyota tacmoa going 45mph. Let me tell you you, I didn't even get whip-lash from the accident. The car was still running and everything. Great cars and in accidents they hold up well. I've seen lots of bad wrecks and roll overs with these cars and the drivers always come out much better than expected. I guess it comes from the ralley heritage.

As for compared to the 370z, obviously the Z is a better car over all. Faster, better handling, better interior, etc. Even compared to the 2010 WRX the Z is the better car. You also pay more to have better. That being said the turbo is a joy to have. Honestly when I was looking for my next car it was between the 2010 WRX and the 370z. I went with the 370z just simply because it was the more grown up of the two cars. During the interum I would walk out to work every day when going home and thought "what would look better under the sign that reads 'MD parking only." That being said if subaru had bumped up the power in the STI to be more competitive I would be driving that right now. Even the new 2011 STI that is coming out still has the same 305hp. Subaru needs to get with the program and get some better hp and torque numbers.

I don't hate on any car, every car has its specific likes and dislikes.

Is what the owner prefers!

So long as the Evo and STi remain rally-inspired, you'll never see them creep much above 300 bhp. Can't really reliably get much more than that from a 2.0 - 2.5 L engine and keep a warranty on it.

And yes, there are the Evo FQ-320, 360 and 400's but those are very pricey for what you get.

Had a Evo IX before the Z, about $5000-6000 into it, and was making 140 more hp and 122 more tq. With stock turbo, exhaust manifold, fmic, clutch, and bottom end on regular 93 pump gas. factory turbo'd cars are definately way easier and cheaper to make fast. And this thread is making me miss my Evo a lot.

the only complaint that I have about either car is the whole "boy racer" element and stereotype that seems to go with the car, I'm not really a fan of the big wings and boxy exterior, the Z is by far a more attractive car, but that rush of boost could get seriously addicting.

Yeah, the "boy racer" stigma kind of sucks. The Z is definitely a more grown up car but even we can't escape that kind of stuff. But neither can any car, really.

So if you enjoy it... drive it!

Agreed, I'll enjoy my Z for the next few years, by the time its ready to trade in, hopefully there will be another Z to upgrade to, or an completely different body style to the WRX, the newest ones body shape reminds me too much of a Corolla, well, aside from the top mount IC.
