I just don't see many people paying the price for this car when so many other cars in it's price segment would out run it. Then again the miata sells decently so I guess there are those who will. A lot of people are saying the car is for cornering not speed. Then I think, I destroy miata's at the auto-x events I go to with my 370z and at the end of the day I can still pull a 13 sec 1/4 mile. Why oh why would I want an Ft-86 when for almost the same amount I can have a Z.

I actually like the MK1 rear a whole lot more than this one. Though I'm not sure if the fron bumper would stay because it's not gonna fit into EU safety standards (hence why a lot of cars has egg shape front).

180HP and 2800lbs is NOT considered light by past means. That's pretty much prelude standards, and they're considered "slower" cars around the track when compared to RSX and Civic in the Honda line. My Celica is 2550lbs and it has 180hp, 164hp on the wheels. I'm sure this has more torque, but 30lbs of torque will not make up the extra 300+ lbs.

I'll admit, the concept looks absolutely awesome, but I can assure you we are in for a HUGE disappointment when the final specs are confirmed. It will be all show, no go. Subaru will be the one that eventually ends up with the big boy version of this car.


What really pisses me off is that IMO, an ideal balanced car in the affordable sports car segment should be between 2800-3000 lbs with 275-300 hp. It's almost as if it can't be done. Out of all the car brands I don't think there is a single car that fits those specs. The Z and the RX-8 are probably the 2 closest cars to that range. The 8 needs about 50 more HP and the Z needs to lose about 2-3oo lbs.

I think the FR-S is targeted to perspective buyers as being a sporty/fuel-economic car. It is more of a CR-Z competitor than anything else, except without the hybrid aspect. If it can get 30 mpg and go 0-60 in a little over 6 seconds, I think that is admirable.

Which is why people will be upset.
I think most were hoping for a lightweight RWD sport coupe, MPG is not something they should be considering, just a bonus if it happens.

Not really, a lot of companies are only 5mpg away from the new standards and some have just released their electric cars with more on the way. That there will give companies like Ford, Nissan, etc. the ability to keep low MPG cars

The 6 banger Mustang does better than that for about $22K, MSRP.

Yeah, but it will corner like a dump truck by comparison

That said, don't get me wrong -- I'm in the "this car needs decent HP" camp. A lot of the fan base apparently is unconcerned with how fast this thing is in a straight line.
