Both used to be RWD...

Although this is a hotly debated issue, Celica would be a really appropriate name for this car -- the Celica was Toyota's first true production sports car, and even the most recent variants have had succesful runs racing in Europe and Asia.

And of course, there is the much beloved GT-4 (yes, not RWD, but still a proper sporting car, albeit for rally).

All the Initial-D fans want this car to be called the Trueno...

Eh, I prefer Celica... but we'll have to wait and see.

Well looks like the FT-86 or whatever you want to call it is being pushed back from 2011 to 2013. Toyota is putting it on hold to see how the CR-Z goes and might decide to give it a hybrid engine?

That rumor was recently debunked -- the production model is set to be on sale for November 2011.

This would be a mistake even if it weren't a rumor. The CR-Z would be selling like crazy if it had a 160-200 hp all gas engine in it. Instead, its barely creeping along. If I could order it from the factory with an empty engine bay and sans batteries I would.

Besides, any car that cuts its A/C off at traffic lights in a 100 degree weather just to "save gas" is full of fail.

Turbo 4 isn't bad. Tis a shame it doesn't come with a v6 but you can do a lot with a factory turbo engine.

Just give Honda a little time, they are working on a non-sh*t CR-Z.
On the V6 side, I think if the stars align and the FT-86 does well and they can bring some LFA tech into the lower price we might see a RWD V6 from Toyota.

im curious if Nissan is still going to go through with the 240 concept...the concept pictures look pretty bland..

so far, two predictions:

2011 sales they must be testing the production version of the car. And I havent seen anything other than the concept. No spy photos nothing. I guess we'll see.

According to that article the production car will differ only slightly from the concept.

Take a look at the last gen celica -- it was almost identical to the XYR concept.

I sure hope the make a turbo version!!!!

Can't wait to hear about the recalls on this car in a few years...

Surprised no one has mentioned bringing back the Supra nameplate. Although a lot of this concept would have to change to justify the name.

I thought the rumor was that the "next supra" was going to be the new Lexus. That never panned out.

The supra name needs to be a car above the Z in power/performance/quality.
This is a great car that is a replaced for Nissan's 240sx in a modern world, until Nissan brings back the 240sx.

Based on days of yore, a Supra would be a top of the line Celica with a 6 cyl engine and would be a direct competitor for the Z car.

All of that can happen with the FT-86...
