My girlfriend's new car ... Help please !

She likes the Honda LX 4 door and the Subaru Impreza. The Subaru appears to be about $1000 more, but does have a bigger engine and all wheel drive. Which do you like better as a daily driver in Pennsylvania? Thanks for any plus or minus advice you might have.

vipor 02-08-2010 02:42 PM

i'm pretty sure ev1 on here will say impreza. don't have any specifics myself beyond the awd system.

bigaudiofanat 02-08-2010 02:44 PM

Civic for gas millage and Subaru for speed. Either one can be hooked up if she wanted it to be. Including a nice sound system

shabarivas 02-08-2010 02:50 PM

wrx!

ChrisSlicks 02-08-2010 02:59 PM

WRX gets much more lesbian attention. This could work out in your favor or completely back fire ...

cave vulture 02-08-2010 03:15 PM

Impreza .......

One interesting point regarding the Subaru ..... My 2005 Baja has 66K and the original Bridgestone Potenza's still look good. Maybe the Honda gets better mileage, but the Subaru might get better tire mileage?

fullmonty 02-08-2010 03:34 PM

Go with the Subaru, my mother has been buying them for the better part of 20 years without any problems.

CrownR426 02-08-2010 04:01 PM

Depends on year and mileage!
And also the type of driving your girlfriend does/encounters.
Does it snow a lot there? And if so, how much does it snow?
Having a bigger engine isn't always a good thing you know.
I think she would be good with that accord.
Honda's last long and are very cheap to maintain.
You should always think about other factors.
The only thing that would make me want to get a subbie is awd.

CBRich 02-08-2010 04:02 PM

Interior quality difference is enough for me to go with Honda.

cave vulture 02-08-2010 04:23 PM

Pennsylvania has a bunch of snow on the ground .....

That might make the Impreza more impressive at the moment. Anybody know about the timing belts on the Civic and Impreza? Is a timing belt failure an engine killer on either car? Thanks...

topcarbon 02-08-2010 04:27 PM

Hondas last longer and have better resale.

cave vulture 02-08-2010 04:32 PM

Civic LX .... Impreza ...

Unless there is some big difference regarding timing belt failure, it looks like either car would be a good choice for her..........

ChrisSlicks 02-08-2010 05:05 PM

They are both interference style engines, timing belt failure is the same situation for both.

cave vulture 02-08-2010 05:09 PM

Thanks Chris ... understood, no difference regarding timing belt. ...

CrownR426 02-08-2010 05:29 PM

what happened to accord?
why is it civic now?
lol isnt there a huge price difference between a civic and a impreza?

cave vulture 02-08-2010 05:31 PM

My mistake .... it is indeed a Civic LX MSRP with auto trans $18,195 ... Impreza with auto trans MSRP $19120 .....

CrownR426 02-08-2010 05:34 PM

It all depends on her now.
She should test drive both!

cave vulture 02-08-2010 05:37 PM

Do you think offering invoice, would be a fair price for either car ?

CrownR426 02-08-2010 05:44 PM

Honestly, you can probably get below invoice.
lol...
Just have to know your stuff before you walk in there.
Salesmen always want to get every cent out of you!
Remember that!

NYBladeZ 02-08-2010 05:59 PM

Smart $ on the Honda, though if it was based only on personal preference I'd take the Subie

AK370Z 02-11-2010 11:16 PM

Do you get snow in your area in winter? if so, def all wheel drive subaru. If not, I would go with HOnda. I like honda and they hold their resale value very well.

Honda switched to TIMING CHAIN from 2003 (if I recall correctly)

Xan 02-11-2010 11:22 PM

Don't want to change your/her mind, but you can get an Altima under 20k as well.

PapoZalsa 02-12-2010 09:36 PM

I get the Subaru for Penn. and all weather driver.
