Chrysler kills PT Cruiser

Chrysler is killing one of the most iconic and pioneering cars on the road. The company will stop building the PT Cruiser this summer, president Tom LaSorda said this week.

The Cruiser follows six other models to the Chrysler graveyard, all gone since Cerberus Capital bought the company in 2007. Now, all Chrysler has left are the Town & Country minivan and the Sebring and 300C sedans, according to Bloomberg.

I'll miss the PT Cruiser, but I can see the reasoning behind the move. After nabbing an enormous amount of buzz in its 2000 debut, Cruiser sales dropped nearly 50% last year to just 51,000 units in the U.S. One dealership gave them away like they were ballpoint pens. (Click here for more on the PT Cruiser from MSN Autos).

Crazy that a car I see everywhere isn't popular enough to keep producing.

Thank god.

Maybe they should have tried to actually update it instead of just killing it. I mean, it is 9 years old now.

shumby 01-16-2009 06:53 PM

seems like there are a million of them around I see them every where. How meny sebrings do you see around?

That thing looks so boring, I'm not even sure I could pick it out of a lineup. The previous model had a little personality, although it's a little dated now.

GOOD! 'Bout time!

Stupid car was a top-heavy Neon! Uncomfortable and retarded looking.

I was driving a friend's cruiser with the turbo, I was surprised at how slow it was. It seemed fine in the comfort department, but not for me.

Why were you surprised it was slow? (LOL)

BMW Killa 01-16-2009 09:25 PM

Just wouldnt figure something with a turbo being an absolute DOG, lol

Crash 01-16-2009 09:27 PM

^^^ I would imagine it'd be MORE of a dog... Take a slow car, lower the compression MORE to make it handle a turbo, add a crappy single scroll cheap turbo and *Poof!* You get a SLOWER car! (any size no matter how small is too big for that motor, and WON'T spool fast)

frost 01-16-2009 10:22 PM

I imagine the drag really starts to kick that car's a-- at say, 50 mph.

Zerafian 01-17-2009 12:41 AM

+1.

^^^ Seriously. But you guys should really thank Bush. It's the only good thing that came out of his presidency. I have to admit, it took a lot of planning and work, but Bush pulled it off. These wars and the economy was all part of a master plan to get rid of the PT Cruiser.

TerribleONE 01-17-2009 03:58 AM

hahaha... lmao ^

The Geek 01-17-2009 08:17 AM

I heard Dodge is either going to shank or sell off the Viper Lineup as well in 2011...Don't know if its a fact, but I've read and heard about it recently...

CrownR426 01-17-2009 09:46 AM

Not a good car anyways :ugh2:
Glad the American Car Companies are killing off their useless go-karts.

In Feb last year it was announced that the next gen viper were no longer in dodge's plans. So 2011 will be the last run if no one buys it.

btw... **** bush, I'd never thank that shithead

frost 01-17-2009 10:40 AM

Bush's final approval rating was 22%. That's roughly 1 out of 5 people. What I want to know is, where are these people? They must never fess up in public, because I haven't heard anyone say they approve of bush in probably 3 years.

Crash 01-17-2009 01:59 PM

LOL! They're never going to come out from under their rock. Don't worry. Bush supporters DO exist, but they have scattered (like the Nazi's did) so they're not caught, tried, and executed! (LOL)

I hate this car, but I really don't understand why they are killing it. 51K units a year is still really good these days, and the tooling etc should all be paid for.

:werd: Again, it's like, a 9 year old design now. How long did they expect to live off that? I know I said it before, but damn, maybe try an update before killing it. Not like they got much to lose at this point.

Exactly, I know a lot of car companies would be thrilled to sell 50K units of a new model!

That said, 50+ year old Avon sales women and hairdressers must be very upset.

WTF? its the same motor as the srt4......wich has wicked overboost at low rpm.... full boost at 3k

drop a 3076 gt like i did supporting mods poof 450rwhp....its the damn automatics that can't handle the power.... and its heavy...

i find you comment insulting....you have no clue how many TT 350 Z's i dispatched. With my stock block untouched besides cams 3076GT turboed "skittle"....There beat you to it. The Z (350)appeared to have trouble holding together at anything around 500 crank. while the Srt4 was bulletproof at that crank level.....but reaching its upper limits.

I have one in my garage.. the stock turbo.... you forget it was 2003 when this turbo was introduced mine is a 04 turbo with 500miles on it...

The Srt4 was kicking the tuner worlds butt Japanese style.

fastest (new ,stock)car in the world under 25k circa 2004.

Wait till those tuners get ahold of the 2.0turbo genesis...@23k....your gonna see..what these guys have been waiting on...a rwd with a that particular 2.0 isn't it called the world motor....same one used in the evo...
they are waiting anxiously on it.... trust me. I'm invested in a 4 banger tuner shop....hey kids pay big money to go fast.

Genesis light and rwd.and turbo..... i feel sorry for the unsuspecting 370Z thinking its only a 2.0 turbo....lol

the GT PT was just getting interesting. Sad to see it go. it would have made for a nice sleeper.
