Rented a 2019 Ferrari 488

Had the car for two days and just wanted to share some pics and my thoughts. A friend of mine thats a photographer on the "side" took me up on my offer to grab a few shots over an hour or so.

I rented it for my wedding day, so me and the wife could get some pics and have a little fun in it. Shes not a big "car person" so obviously it was a bit more for me than her. I was just looking forward to her reaction since she thought we'd be driving around in her Nissan Rogue.

Anyways, the car came with a full set up from Capristo and a tune. The word that best describes the sounds the car made is well, intoxicating. I kept the valves open on it the entire time. Hearing the turbos spoil and the exhaust popping and cracking, oh man!

Ive never had a chance to just drive a car with this type of power however I wanted. That being said, I didnt go over 80mph and I only floored it once to feel that supposed 0-60 in 2.7 seconds, on an empty road. Since the car was under my insurance for the two days, I drove it like I owned it...not like I stole it. Besides, the sounds the car made was truly where it was at.

I've never gotten so much attention in my life either. To the point it was unsafe. People recording the car, while they were driving behind or next to me. Lots of kids coming up to talk to me. It makes sense though. Ive lived in Chattanooga for 11 years now and I can say with 100% certainty, Ive NEVER seen a Ferrari in town. Even though theres a lot of "old money" in this town, thats the one car Ive never seen. Im sure someone owns one, they just rarely drive it.

I honestly only have a neutral reaction about the interior. the interface was more irritating than driver friendly for me. Buttons randomly set in places you'd never expect. One example is the lock and unlock button being in the place where you'd turn on the overhead light in our cars. Other little things like that.

Being a supercar, I fully felt that it was meant to be on the track, even though the seats were hard yet super comfy. I cruised around town and never got uncomfortable throughout the entire day.

Anywho, I could go on but here are some of the pics he took of it.

Super nice. Any videos of how the car sounds?
What was the cost to rent it per day.

I'll be in my bunk!

Regrettably, the two days were so damn busy, I didnt get anyone to do video of the car. When I realized that, I was actually really pissed!

The rental company trailered it up from ATL. After all "fees" and such, it came out to $3900 for two days. Each day starts at a base price of $1600 then those "fees" they add, come into play.

For the record, you can find them cheaper, around $1200-1400/day. However, living in Chattanooga TN, my options were limited. The 488 wasn't even my first choice but out of what they had available, it was the only appealing option.

you get, as they would call "complimentary miles" which I laughed at when he read that part. 100 miles per day is the limit which I didnt get close to. After that, its $5/ mile.

My thought was, "wtf am I paying for, $3900 to look at the damn car or something?" I told them they should just call it "mileage limit". Nothing more irritating then trying to make it seem like the 100 miles a day is something they are gifting the person that just dropped all that cash, lol

Supercar rentals sound like a predicament. You obviously don't want to fork up for the purchase, or the upkeep, but then you're out $3,900 in just 2 days, can't rack up too many miles, surely don't want to bin the car either and indeed drive like you owned it.

But you were like the coolest dude alive for those 2 days. I think it's just an interesting thing just to see some semblance to owning it — like getting out of it when you park and then realize you're the one holding the key and coming back to it. If you try to wrap your head around that, it's kinda like...whoa. If something like, a PA announcer in Target was like "customer with the Ferrari, your headlights are on", you'd be like "hey, that's me!"

Congrats on the wedding. Glad you got to play with the 488 to go with it.

Thanks! I can agree with all of that. The afternoon of the return, I went to the gym first, and had my keys on the ground, like I normally would, during a set of whatever. I had multiple people look at me and then back at the keys like "noooo, thats not a ferrari key fob". It was pretty funny, especially with the people I actually know in there. The feeling of knowing Im walking back out to it was also very cool. The enthusiast in me was very happy since it had a capristo exhaust setup. So at least I wasn't driving a fully stock 488...as dumb as that may sound. You know how the meme goes "see a $500k super car, doesnt look twice. See a modded out civic, you cant stop looking". Its a little like that. Nothing special about driving it stock.

I will say though, next year, if I actually get serious with pulling the trigger on a Gen 2 R8, I will rent one for 3-4 days. Ill want to see if I get over wanting one or it just makes me want it worse.

As of right now, I havent gotten my fill of that car...Im having some withdraws :D
