BMW M4 Competition
Despite being a Z car enthusiast since a child, I realized I've owned more BMWs than any other brand. Stepping into an M car was the logical step, I suppose. I first drove an M3 in 1997, and over 20 years later, I'm thrilled to be behind the wheel of a 2020 M4 Competition. The car is quick, although undeniably dated. I am keeping the Z but it has been relegated to the driveway.

Beautiful M4 you purchased congratulations this is actually one vehicle that is not a Nissan that I like. The body style of the M4 is sharp and the interior is nice as well. If you can afford the M4 than you can afford the complete BMW general maintenance schedule. I seen one new M4 pass me on the highway to try and get ahead of traffic they are not slow pokes. I’m happy to hear you are keeping that amazing Z of yours.

Love the color. Briefly drove an M4 with the wife sometime ago, and the seats were to die for, so comfortable. The torque was of a different stratosphere compared to my stock Z of course.
The Z’s classic shape and relatively analog-ness will be great for making memories with you son. Enjoy! |
Beautiful M4 I LoVe the color . Have fun with your new ride.

Thanks guys. I installed 12/10 mm spacers (popular sizes with the 437M wheels) since the pics were taken so the car sits a little better. Looking at the front pic, however, it appears I could've gone 12 mm all around. Oh well.

Congrats.
Unfortunately things feel "dated" fast now because how much any kind of product wants to be pushed out. Been shopping a couple cars and it's like I need a mid-life example because of the updates in between being more worthwhile. Ironically a car that seems to withstand the test of time at least in terms of interior IMO is the Honda Civic. It's crazy that had Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in like 2016 and I can't even get in a high end Lexus until now. |
The F82 somewhat feels dated, at least to me, not because of the motor, transmission, or anything drivetrain related, but primarily because of the interior. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't feel cheap in any way. In fact, the Competition seats are stunning and the Merino leather extremely supple. However, having owned a '16 and '18 F30, the interior layout simply feels inferior, and dare I say, a bit low-rent compared to the C63 AMG and to a much lesser extent, the RS5. Maybe it's just an issue of familiarity interior-wise. Fortunately, the similarities end with the dash as the M4 ZCP feels quicker than its advertised 444 hp. F8X aftermarket parts are not much more expensive compared to the Z either, so that's another plus.

Nonetheless, confident you'll enjoy it otherwise. :) |

I recently made the same change! Bought an M4 competition and am keeping the Z. The M is a beast at the track, but you can definitely feel the weight of the car. It needs front camber plates and track specific wheels, but is otherwise perfect. Brakes are great, no fuel starve or oil overheating …
I still love the Z and plan to keep it. They are 2 different animals. |
