2019 Veloster N

Drove an N yesterday. My GF is seriously considering one. They only had one on the showroom floor and had to drop the glass doors to pull it out. LOL. It was NOT the one with the performance package (didnt have any yet) but this car is AMAZING for the price point.

I really wish the automakers would go back to making hot hatches for people who have eyes.

Good for her!
Curious if the Civic R is also of interest, or just the Veloster N.

I think that Hyundai did well with this car, and it was a bold move of them to throw the gauntlet down at all.

Shes had a love affair with the Veloster for years, well before we even met and now that the N is out and her car is paid off shes really digging it. I have a typo in my first post it was NOT the performance package one, the one with 25 more ponies and different tires, wheels etc. They get three of those in 3 months, so shell drive it when they come in and probably go home in a 370Z. lol

You can’t out run ugly. Have you done your research on this vehicle before your girlfriend purchases? Having purchased a 2013 Hyundai Azera and 2014 Hyundai Elantra they were two of the most unreliable vehicles I have ever owned. The “America’s best warranty” I found is the worst warranty of any auto maker I have ever seen. As there are parts you will have to replaced from your own dime as they as not covered under Hyundai’s “America’s best warranty” and parts that are well known to fail are not covered after talking to a Hyundai technician. With the 2013 Hyundai Azera we had I experienced transmission failure at only 30K and had to replace a power steering pump at only 20K miles plus other sensors. When I sold the 2013 Hyundai Azera and 2014 Hyundai Elantra we had they were practically worthless. Hyundai vehicles have the worst resale value on the market over the first five years right next to Kia. Not to mention the paint defects that the 2013 Hyundai Azera had. You should look into other vehicles for your girlfriend to purchase.

Other comparable vehicles are the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro and the 2019 Ford Mustang.

UNKNOWN_370 02-20-2019 07:01 AM

But But... It's a Hyundai! :gtfo2: How dare you like it!!! You're not an enthusiast. You're a korean lover and JDM traitor. And the car is unreliable and just plain sucks!!! :ughdance:

LMAO!!!

Just kiddin:icon18:

So what were some of your high point of the test drive...

Cornering
Handling
Feedback
Acceleration????

I just watched a review on that vehicle. I actually almost got a Veloster Turbo lol. I personally like them. That new iteration is a pretty solid contender. Sure looks better than that new Civic type R...imho

ZCanadian 02-20-2019 11:40 AM

Yeah, haters gonna hate. Especially on Hyundai, and especially on Veloster.

Anecdotal experiences aside, there are lots of reports on new vehicle reliability that put the Korean twins in the top 10. The problem is that most of those look at the number of customer complaints per thousand cars sold. And they relate to a region (and often, cars are made for a region, even at different assembly plants with different parts and some suppliers). They don't weigh 99 fit-and-finish defects any differently from 99 bad engines. In other words, they aren't perfect either, but most sure seem to shine a good light on the Koreans.

Camaro and Mustang have issues too. Not that they are bad cars, though. Focus RS, which is more in line with the Veloster N, has certainly had its share of nightmares.

Keep in mind, it has a 5 year, 60,000 mile powertrain warranty (with roadside assistance).
If she is pining for a Veloster, then by all reports the "N" is the one to get if you can justify the $.
Or a 370Z!!! ;-)

Yep, so much Vehicular Hate these days! :rofl2:

My experience with the Kia warranty was great... my mother's Kia Optima that is. She had a couple of little issues over the period she owned that car and Kia fixed them no problem. Just sayin...

Its EASILY the best handling, quickest FRD car Ive ever driven. I ragged on it a bit, of course some push in the turns but it corners like an ape. And QUICK!!! Barely any wheel hop at all on WOT from stop. Really responsive, you know exactly what the tires are doing and the seats...WOW!!

Of course these are in the mix. We like them, I lean toward the Stang, she liked the Chevy better but she likes the Veloster N more. Theres always gonna be something faster so we are going for smile per mile.

Smile per mile....I like that. Man I loke the Veloster....it reminds me of what the CRX should've been...

The Chevrolet Camaro has definitely improved a lot since the 2010 when the 5th gen Camaro was introduced. I could not say the same for the Ford Mustang but the Chevrolet Camaro is quite reliable for an American vehicle that is and are enjoying to drive like the Ford Mustang. The body style of the Chevrolet Camaro looks very nice. I would purchase an American made vehicle before I ever purchased a Korean made vehicle though. Like one of the members on this wonderful forum said before Korean vehicles are like Korean women they don’t last long. Why support the Korean automakers??

Zoren 370 02-21-2019 04:31 AM

If you want a four banger turbo.

Let her drive the 2017-19 cayman S....She will forget your her BF and date the salesman!

Chuck33079 02-21-2019 06:28 AM

I don't understand the hate on the Korean cars. My wife had a Kia Spectra that she beat the hell out of for 90k miles, and then gave it to her dad for another 75k miles. It's been flooded twice. Everything still works. I haven't had to replace anything too out of the ordinary on it beyond scheduled maintenance. It's not a good car, but it's a solid car especially considering how cheap they are.

That being said, every time I turned a wrench on it I marvelled at how many corners they cut to keep it cheap. If Honda used a stud, Kia uses a bolt. If Toyota uses two bolts, Kia used one. If Nissan used one bolt, Kia used a plastic clip. It was DOHC, but there was only one cam gear. It was magnificent how Bare Minimum the whole car is.

I guess I must have lucked out - we have a 2011 Accent in our fleet at work - almost 250,000 trouble-free km's on it, and it gets the crap beaten out of it (construction). People forget it is not a pickup truck. They also forget to change the oil until the low oil light comes on!!!

As far as support, I guess it goes both ways. Why support American made cars if you live anywhere else on the globe? I guess we should rule the Camaro out up here since they moved production from Oshawa (and previously Quebec) to the states. And if you're looking at a crew cab pickup you need to choose a Titan over anything with a bowtie on it ('cuz all GM's come from Mexico). It's a funny world anymore, and I respectfully suggest that the time for that kind of thinking has passed.

That's really Kool. I think it's a nice car. Beautiful steering wheel and seats. Hyundai is showing some balls. The coupe is next from Hyundai... Hoping so. I can't wait... Even if I don't buy a Hyundai in my future? I'm just happy they're trying to show love to the enthusiast market. Their rate of evolution is legendary. Go Hyundai!!

VN= Veloster N

The owner of Precision Garage in Las Vegas bought an R spec for his wife and he is tracking it and loves the car. He has a few videos on YouTube. All he has done is change the exhaust and it is fast out the box. I have been following them in PWC and they kick everyone's butt with the N. They are running the VN in the IMSA Continental series. Yeah Hyundai is for real! You don't build a test facility at the N Ring just for chit and giggles!

Buy Corvette and Porsche their support for racing is impeccable!
Nissan??? ...I start to question them now...9 years still no new Z...hmm.. they rather sell Sentras to the market. Money comes first...bad business model for an enthusiast!
