2020 Supra... first thoughts

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a2...ra-price-2020/ Starting at $50K... same HP as the Z... am I missing something? Would you pay that for this car?

Personal opinion? It's ugly, lol.
I didn't pay MSRP for my Nismo. No way I'm paying that kind of money for a BMW/Toyota mash-up. I had a Z3 MRoadster, back in the day, and it was a fun car, but I've moved on. The 370 is where I want to stay.

funny, my wife asked me this weekend what car would i be thinking of next. this of course wouldn't be happening for a few years. i said either a newer 370z or the new supra. i had a supra turbo, '89 i think, years ago and loved it. my fave car since the z. i wouldn't and couldn't buy either new, but a used one knocking off 10-15k would be right up my alley. looks like direct competition for the z.

Sure would. It's leaps and bounds ahead of the Z in almost every way. I'm guessing with what Z people pay for an exhaust, they'll be able to push 500hp to the wheels and actually have torque. Though I'd wait to see what the refresh looks like. Buying the first year of a car is pretty much never a good idea.

$50k is affordable to some people.

A whole lotta "meh." I'm sure it's a great car, but it will be a failure. It's just not a substantial step up from what's already out there. There is no "wow" factor.

Very few people are willing to pay $60K plus on an impractical 2 seater sports coupe --- and "yes" after tax license and registration etc., these will be $60K cars. Millennials won't buy them. The BRZ sold because it was cheap.

A Supra just isn't that much of a status car. I suspect most people would rather buy a lightly used Porsche or American Muscle such as the Camero ZL1 etc.

I'm guessing the price, being automatic, and style will not make this car a must have for those supra enthusiasts. Personally, I'd prefer an older supra based off style and well price.. I'd rather buy an Audi, Q60, or F-Type Jag

Default New Toyota Supra

When you look at the supra from the side it has the exact same windows, curve and hatch like the 370z. Seriously looks like a Z with a different front and back fascia.

Actually it has the same aesthetics as the previous generation Z4 M coupe. It has "similarities" to the 370Z.

God, you're older than I thought.

The interior of the new Supra is very bad indeed. 0-60 in 4.1 seconds is what I'd expect from a 50k sports car in 2020. Would I pay 50k for it? Nope. 30k - possibly - but I think I'll wait for the new Z, thank you.

Interior screams BMW, even down to the stupid tablet thing on top of the dash. Looks like an after thought and not really designed well.
