2020 Supra... first thoughts

What is the break down on this? Isn't built off the '11 M1 platform with the same engine bolted to a slushbox 8 speed and no back seat?

Heck yeah I would, it looks exotic and has a 50/50 weight with handling tech. Might consider it even though its an automatic.

It just makes no sense why their halo car got a motor from a bmw that's moderate power and from a company that makes unreliable engines...

Imagine Nissan having the next GTR using a Mercedes engine...

Honestly most of us will change our mind once we see some stances and boosted up the wazoo but without a manual and going in with a bmw engine the stacks against Toyota...

Proof is in the pudding, a manual is inevitable to follow if it doesnt flop.

To my understanding. Benz engines are solid. BMW engines are good. The problems with these cars are overengineered electronic systems that make them unreliable. Which is very expensive to fix. Toyota with minimized electronics and its own tune should keep this carvreliable.

You missed my point my friend. I'm saying why would you reproduce your halo car and not have your engine in it. The GTR and Supra are not famous and feared because they look sexy... they were feared for the power and reliability of the rb26 and 2jz.

I've been tracking the ft1 supra for years. If I knew it was going to have a crappy bmw engine I wouldnt have even thought twice. Mercedes engines may be a step up from bmw for reliability BUT that's missing the point.

In that sense i do agree.... I would've rather seen a 3jz... But we're in a place where we are losing affordable sports cars. At least it's an entry and hopefully it will do well? If it does well maybe toyota may want to make a 3jz. For now the car is nice. It looks like it's worth what it goes for.

People talking about the price is too much when it's 50k...it's about the same as a new Nismo, it's faster and basically better in every way except looks, which is subjective. I mean obviously this forum is going to have some bias but let's not be here delusional people...I'm actually amazed that these start at 50k. No one expected these to start at 50k.

I think the 2020 Toyota Supra is definitely a good idea for Toyota to produce as it will be a long time coming. This new BMW engine will not be the most reliable engine like the original 2JZ engine. Also from what I found out it will be priced higher than the average consumer can afford at just under 60K. We will just have to wait and see what Toyota really decides to enveil in 2020??

Agreed... The hate is real. I think it looks sharp. I just need a review from a trusted reporter and a test drive to feel anything more than it's looks.

Im praying this car will push Nissan to build a Z very soon?

Here's an article of the differences between the Z4 n Supra.

I really dont care about the price. Toyota dropped the ball when they didn't make the supra manual. That's why a lot of ppl are upset. A 50k car with only 335hp and not only that, it is auto, shoot, might as well save up some more and get yourself an m4 or the new audi rs5 or even the z06. I'm just happy that companies like Porsche, BMW and Chevy are still making their sports car manual.

No manual = no go for me.

Approximately 50% of the BMW M2's sold in the USA are manual trans. Many car enthusiasts who prefer manuals, will definitely be ordering the BMW version and not even think twice about getting the Toyota.
