I went in search of one again yesterday. Nothing but blank stares from the dealership when I tried to get a drop date.

It seems that by the time someone actually spots this unicorn, the next big thing will take some of the wind out of Supra’s sails.

They might be gauging interest in it before deciding on how many to build. They don't want to build say 50,000 and only sell 35,000. Then have 15,000 sitting going for a reduced price later. That would hurt them.

I’m not disagreeing with you that the whole BMW and Toyota collab is a bit frustrating, lack of a manual option as well as the interior looks more BMW than Toyota; but it seems like it might be a real competitor within a decent price point. I would at least WANT (doubt anyone will be able to do it till you agree to price/financing) to test drive it to see if it’s all hype or if there is something. :driving:

Oh I know it will be a fun to drive just because it's BMW. I used to own a E92 M3. Most of their cars except the SUVs are pretty fun. This new BMW looks like it is a higher performer (at least on paper) and lighter weight than my ancient E92.

From experience with other launches, they get expressions of interest (even down to deposits on some cars), and once people find out cars just aren't coming in enough volume to meet demand, 60% back out. They hear about the next "flavour of the month" and decide to wait for that. Or in this case, jump to the BMW twin. Once early adopters start posting problems or mediocre reviews, even more people start to question the wisdom of continuing to wait.

So, in the end, they sell a lot fewer cars. Toyota doesn't need to flood the market, but they had numbers to make a business case for the car. They should have timed the release to coincide closer to actually having units to sell.

Somebody needs to throw himself on his sword, if this was the plan. The other options are that issues have come up in pre-production cars (cooling, for instance), or there are production problems.

If anybody is thinking about getting the new Supra, I would just wait for the new RX7 but I heard that it is going to cost more than $50k..

These dyno numbers are sick. Downpipes intake exhaust BOV and a stage 1 conservative tune will probably throw it in the GTR world.

Those numbers are impressive... but it's just so bloody ugly!

It might look better in person? I personally think it looks Kool. But it could be like the GTR. On video and pic the GTR looks hum drum. Then in person it has so much presence it's crazy!! You never know?

i think it looks cool ... I liked how it looked in the pictures and liked it even more after seeing it in person a few weeks back.

I'm probably going to look into getting one a year or two down the road. The mark up should be dead by then.

I always liked the look of the new Supra and I'm sure it's even better in person. It doesn't really have a lot of curves like the old one but it definitely looks way more athletic. And the GTR is a MASSIVE car. I would even call it muscle car-ish just from it's presence alone.

When I parked my Z next to one, my Z looked like a cute girl, you can tell she does squats but she looks a tiny bit overweight but it's in the right places. The GTR looked like a muscular woman that will break your face and put you into a full nelson. But, I always liked a sturdy looking woman that can defend herself lol

I like it, but remain disappointed by how German it is.

I really like the aftermarket support they built into this car and the performance numbers it's putting up. Not 100% sold on the looks but with some wheels and a drop it's looking pretty good. Nissan needs to tease us with something about the next Z already

WHY DON'T one of yinz just buy one and get it over with. Nothing like reading rehash...rehash.

ZCanadian 06-16-2019 10:30 AM

I’d have test driven one by now, except it’s nowhere to be found where I live yet.
Presumably, dealership will only get one to start with, as a showroom model that won’t get any test drives, or more likely sell ASAP at “market adjusted” (read: “sucker”) price. They don’t get many Toyota’s they can do that with!

Anyone see one available yet?

i would pick up one this year if it's available for msrp. But knowing how it went down with the Civic Type R, I doubt i will be able to find one for msrp which is why i'm going to wait a year or two.

yeah, that is the unfortunate thing. It probably will have a mark up on it and probably no test drives too. (it was the same way with the Type R)

The car is supposedly available for sale in the states starting 7/22 for the launch edition and late august for the other trims so we still have a few months.

Ventruck 06-17-2019 08:51 PM

I'd personally wait a year or two. It's a good sign that Toyota supposedly reviewed every component, but as with any new car, you never know.

Also if you plan on modding, good to know what will work and what won't — and if you'd really think it's worth voiding warranty. I'm not sure how long it took for the ZSpeed HD CSC option to come into existence, but it surely wasn't overnight.
