Grossly UNDERRATED horsepower coming out the Supra. It dynoed 339hp 421ft lbs tq at the wheels. That explains why people are bucking around in the Supra like in my camaro. This is how a sports car should feel. TORQUEY! At this time .. My only complai t is the interior isn't original and that it doesn't have a manual handbrake. But the car itself seems rather impressive. Seems like it has almost everything a "TRUE ENTHUSIAST" needs .. Let me reiterate true. In other words, if you talk about creature comforts, tech, gas mileage and anything outside of tuning performance, and getting the most out of your drive. Youre not a true enthusiast
Like every other car this car is about $3,000 overpriced. But this is the norm in the car market. The Supra seems to be everything I hoped the Z to be. My only performance complaint aside from it being too front heavy was it was low on torque. My gut tells me Toyota was on our forum listening while nissan was on Tesla's forum trying to reinvent themselves. Hopefully, Nissan will wake up from their sleep. https://www-caranddriver-com.cdn.amp...o-horse2Fer%2F

From what I read on the Supra forum Toyota was given a slightly different motor than the Z4. They may have also been restricted by BMW in the hp it could make. So, they tuned it to have an *** load of torque (damn near 500 crank). My initial thoughts are that it's a chicken **** move that it's so underrated, but now I'm glad lol. FBO ought to be a blast, enough power for most, and well worth the money. $50k is about right, but if prices drop below $45,000 it will sway many. Seems like a good buy, but if I had a Z I wouldn't get ride of it for a Supra unless I had to (and was over the Z). If you like the Supra, keep the Z as you will likely miss it and the two are very different. |

Engineering Explained compares the Supra to 86 TRD.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJQo0tZ5Jmg He's not saying bad things about the Supra, but it is an honest comparison to a known quantity. Spoiler - he says the 86 is more fun, although the Supra is the better performer. Dollar for dollar - hmmmm. |

I don't think so. The z4 is probably overrated as well.if you notice? The BMW has higher hp and lower tq numbers. And the Supra has lower hp n higher tq numbers. Its just a result of the tune. Engines can be tuned to balance tq n hp or raise hp n tq lowers or lower hp n get more tq. You saw this in the Z33 from 2003 to 2008. The car started with a close ratio of hp n tq. Like 287hp 274 tq. By 2008 it waa 306hp and 268lb tq. The engine was maxed out so getting up was draining tq numbers. They had to bore it out to get more power. In the case of the Supra. I don't think it's maxed out in the same way per say. But it's maxed out without certain types of mods. So getting more power is going to take doing all the things Toyota left room for. Opening vents new coolers and going thru the stage tunes and there associated parts.

The Supra may well be a far better car than he is a driver - that's not a bad thing, if you want to dedicate yourself to improving on the track. But it almost takes a racetrack to get the goodies out of something like the Supra. Not quite on a par with Porsche or supercars, but a more serious entry than the 86 which is just a blast to drive anywhere, period. The lesser Toyota can be driven at the limit in most situations, and therefore needs some major mods to satisfy a serious track driver as skill levels progress. The Supra is more capable, but on the street will be less fun. I'm not trying to diminish the Supra in any way, but since 99.9% of people who buy either car will not ever even drive it past the gate of a race track, I think it is a fair comment and a comparison that needed to be made. And if you look at Jason's other video's, he's definitely under-stating his own driving skills. He's done a lot of track driving with competent instruction, including the Porsche Winter Driving Experience. He's just not the type to go out and flog a car every weekend chasing tenths like some of us. He also hasn't learned many bad habits. At first, by the title, I thought that it was going to just be click-bait. But after watching the video, I think it made sense. |

Forget the windows. How many posts here are "if it only had a manual"? The 86 does. The Supra . . . might. And forget the horsepower. Supra has the exact same horsepower per ton that the 370Z has. The reason to go to the new Toyota is the torque provided by the turbo motor. That's a fact. BTW, the S2K is boring as hell to drive unless you rev it above 7K. That gets really old after a while on the street. Your neighbours won't love you, but you'll enjoy tinnitus for the rest of your life! Most people (myself included) don't know how to handle a car well enough on track for the first several years anyway, and giving them all that HP is doing them a disservice. Putting them in a 400HP rocket usually only masks their mistakes. Giving it to them for the street - can you say "Mustang"? Anyway, if this chart displays properly, then the only thing you need to figure in is the fun factor, which is too subjective to measure and will be different for everyone here... EDIT - sorry - don't know how to make the chart appear larger. :-( |

Like I said... Were in a Z forum. Did u own a Z? Did you track it? If you did 300hp at the wheels? Then u can graduate to 400? But anyway. To each his own. 370 = Hanz Supra = Franz 86= needs to get pumped up!! U wanna manual. Camaro SS 1LE. So friggin underappreciated. It will be a classic to a generation that will appreciate more than uber Starbucks and being gender binary
